the plot is good, the fantasy of it all is fun

What is keeping me going with this series is the plot and fantasy elements. I want to keep learning more about the Crows. The magic system and history of them is super interesting. Hope we learn more about the other kingdoms too in further books.

Lore is an interesting character. There’s definitely a lot we still don’t know and I have a feeling there are people we are supposed to trust that we shouldn’t. I can’t wait to learn more about him and his people though!

Dante is… ugh MAJOR EYE ROLL the whole book. How Fallon was blind to him is beyond me. I could tell right away he was just a dirtbag. But I get it, first loves die hard.

That leads me to Fallon. I almost DNF’d this book multiple times because of her. One thing I do not personally like is when authors do the whole accidentally think out loud thing. Fallon does this a lot. Just have it part of the dialogue for crying out loud. Instead it just makes for awkward unnecessary moments. Also she’s supposed to be 22 but i felt like i was reading more like a teenager in this entire book. The way she was such a lovesick puppy over Dante got old SO fast. Even when she grew a backbone and he showed his true colors she maintain loyalty to this dude.. like what? Her naivety was off the charts. And this girl has zero critical thinking skills. The amount of times I called her an idiot is too many. So many things were laid out for her.. dots just ready to be connected.. and she’s putting square pegs in round holes. I PRAY that she grows a real backbone in book 2, that she gains some common sense and critically thinks, and stops blindly giving her loyalty to that douche canoe Dante.

This was my second attempt to finish this book. I really disliked the FMC and her obsession with the prince.

Fallon had a bit of a one track mind in the beginning, which was a little annoying. However, I loved the adventure of the hunt and learning about the history and heritage of the different cultures and it feels like a perfect set up to the next book

The lead character Fallon was annoying with her only motive and world revolving around her childhood crush and friend, the Prince. Who was such a selfish and contemptuous jerk that you knew it was going to end badly. Although it was great that her friends were there to support Fallon in all her decisions, I feel they let her down when all Fallon needed was a right slap on the face with a wet fish to get her priorities right. I empathised with Nonna greatly.
How the Crow found Fallon charming I have no idea except being a statue for a long time had created a thirst for drama and over reactions.
I feel Minimus should have had a greater role but maybe he does in later books.
