This is a book about a girl, Daisy, who was a child psychic and now lives a relatively normal life with her aunt and her cousin until one day her cousin starts behaving oddly and Daisy begins to suspect she's being haunted.
I really enjoyed the main character and her cousin! Especially their deep bond that made them basically sisters. I love the idea that people are haunted rather than buildings and the horror/paranormal elements were done really well.
There were a few small plot twists that I was expecting and ended up really enjoyed!
The only thing I didn't really enjoy was the ending - I just don't think it was explained enough and I wasn't entirely sure what was going on.

I'll be honest, this book confused me to the extent I felt a headache coming on. Millions of people will adore this book because Deirdre Sullivan is a talented author but this book just didn't work for me at all. I was just overwhelmed. Maybe if I try again in the future it may be different but for now, it's a no from me.

From what I could gather, i expected this book to be a ya horror. This didn't feel like horror in my opinion, it felt much more like an atmospheric and psychological thriller. So my biggest things to say are don’t go into this thinking it’s going to be really scary and gory because it’s not - it’s much more psychological which I actually really like. I think it’s also important to note that because this book focuses more on the psychological creepiness, don’t expect the book to have much action and drama because it’s not - it’s fairly slow paced and it creeps up on you.

Wise Creatures is an atmospheric haunting YA story that takes place in Ireland. Daisy’s childhood wasn’t easy. As a former psychic child she dealt with a lot of hurt and fear. And then she lost her parents in an accident. Ten years later she now lives happily with her aunt and niece. Until Nina, her niece, starts seeing and feeling things. Whispers in the walls, objects falling for no reason. And while everyone thinks Nina is making this all up, Daisy knows better.
I’m gonna be honest, while the premise sounded amazing, I was struggling through the first half. The poetic writing style felt a bit forced to me and the cursive sentences took me out of my focus. I didn’t get them.
Fortunately as the story continued, it improved and I ended up enjoying the story. What I loved most about this story was the bond between Nina and Daisy. This was written beautifully, and it was clear how much they cared about and loved each other.
Especially Daisy’s character spoke to me. I would really like a story focusing more on Daisy’s past and future. She kept her trauma hidden for years but it kept haunting her. “I always thought that hauntings began with houses. They don’t, of course. It’s people, isn’t it. They begin with people.”

The style of writing at the start took time to get used to and I struggled to get into the story until nearly a quarter/third of the way in. However, after that point, I enjoyed the plot twists, the character development and how the story moved along. Overall definitely enjoyed it, just took some time to get going for me.
