This is either brilliant or written while the author was high - in either way this is an amazingly funny and absurd sci fi book ahead of its time. It shows the brutal bureaucracy if the universe, the vivid cultures of alien species, the ultimate answer of life and the universe, the destruction of the earth, a lot of improbable occurrences, and a depressed robot named Marvin. Love it

  1. This is my first full fantasy book, and I did enjoy it! Now at first it did take me a little bit of time to get into it but quickly realized I didn’t know how to pronounciate most of the words causing a lot of confusion in my head because I had no idea what was going on. BUT After I started reading and listening to the audiobook at the same time, the audio book I listed in tandem was read by Stephen Fry, and he absolutely made the book so engaging and since I was able to hear the correct names it made it a lot easier for me to follow along and understand what was going on. This book was pretty funny I loved that Earth got destroyed for the sake of a bypassed KILLED ME! I also enjoyed the little puns and giggles, I think Marvin was my favorite such a hypocritical thought! A depressed robot, so depressed a dang ship and its police agents in it committed suicide from boredom. Good read, I will add the next book the my TBR as long as I can find the Audiobook from Stephen Fry!

this one was fun!! Kinda crazy stuff was going on that I felt a bit overwhelmed in, def had its funny moments though - i think there are other books in the series? Maybe I’ll pick them up sometime

I was very intrigued at the start, really liking the idea of a normal guy being swept up in an interstellar journey completely against his will while not particularly caring so much about what happens, but the story lost me about a third of the way in. I got a tad fed up of a little bit of plot and then something completely random and quirky happening to derail the journey repeating every single chapter. Felt like it was trying too hard to be unpredictable when it could've been more interesting (to me at least) if the characters and locations were developed more before throwing them away constantly.

However I'm aware that I'm in the minority for disliking this book so I'm not going to get too mad.
