Got sucked in AGAIN! So many bad sleeping choices due to engrossing stories . . . .Holly Jackson just makes this series so readable with the short chapters, fast pace, and new twists every chapter. I really enjoyed how this sequel built off the first one and portrayed the main character Pip as very traumatized and scarred from her previous experience as a detective, even if the whole "I'm not doing that again; I've changed; I'm not that person" definitely felt too fast and furious. Girl, you were definitely traumatized and obsessive and unhealthy when you were detective-ing, but you're not Vin Diesel coming back into the fight after years of retirement. The way the whole town (or at least several adults) see her as some kind of superhero genius when she was just determined and clever seemed a bit unrealistic, but the Reynoldses were kind of desperate, so I guess it makes sense.

The dark descent of Pip's psyche was intriguing and the ending was genuinely heart-rending. Got my heart pounding and me flipping light switches on as fast as I could. Just a really exciting mystery - I don't feel super connected to the characters per se, but the story made me emotional and I enjoy watching them work, so I just really like the books! It's an odd feeling to like the story without being super attached, but I see why this was such a wildly popular series.

ok unpopular opinion: i preferred this book over the 1st one.
I like the mystery in this one a lot more, I felt like it played out in an interesting way.

Kinda slow in the beginning but once it really got going it was a great time.
I liked Pip's character development throughout. I wish Ravi did a bit more! I kinda miss their duo energy, he felt a bit like an assistant in this.

Lauren and Ant can go suck an egg.

WHEN PIP POURED A DRINK ON TOM, PUSHED ANT INTO LOCKERS AND VANDALISED MAX'S HOUSE AFTER LEAKING HIS CONFESSION... QUEEN SHIT I TELL U

Charlie's plan is ruined if Child Brunswick is happily married tho

I really enjoy this series and thought this was a great sequel. I loved the addition of the podcast, and as always I loved the formatting of the book. Super easy and quick to read with all the different file types, keeps it interesting too. This one reminded me of the crime junkie podcast and only murders in the building on Hulu, which I love both. I liked Pip more in this book, I can see a lot of change in her character from the beginning of the first book to the end of the second book. The most thought provoking part of this book for me came at the end, with a large morality question; this is pretty defining for pips character. I was also happy to see some loose ends from Book 1 tied up. Lastly, I also enjoy Holly Jackson’s writing style and intend to pick up the other books in this series as well of more of her other works.
