Depressing, heartbreaking, breathtaking, brilliant. I'm so thankful that a friend of mine told me to read this one (and let me borrow her copy of it).
I'll be honest and say that when I first started reading it, I was a bit baffled by the way it was written. But now I think it worked this way. It's definitely not a book for everyone. But I will say that I hope everyone at least gives it a try.

Unfinished - got to page 108. I would have loved to have finished this as I was really interested in the story of Frank's life, but the lack of punctuation when people were speaking drove me up the wall and I had to give up. :(

This book started out strong, but I thought the ending was rather weak.
I strongly recommend listening to this book because it's narrated by the author, Frank McCourt, and he is a born story-teller. He infuses his heartbreaking tale with a warmth and humor that are greatly enhanced by hearing it in his own voice.

I am embarrassed that I had never read McCourt's memoir before. I loved how he authentically recaptured the hardships his family lived throughout his childhood through the eyes of his young self.
It's a lovely story about growing up poor and Irish during a hard time in history. The story ends at a strange place though that doesn't seem to explain the title. Maybe I just didn't listen well enough. All-in-all, a pleasant read.
