very interesting insights into the different standards of character during austen’s time, and suchhh well written social commentary imo!! i always love how austen can make her writing feel so modern, her wittiness and plot twists and drama are always so fun to read

I don’t think Jane Austen is my thing. The only other classic I can think of that feels similar to this is Jane Eyre and I liked the writing style of that considerably more. For this book the slow pacing plus the heavy dialogue bored me to the point that even though I had been finding enjoyment in the story earlier, the briefer moments where I was liking it were overshadowed by the slow plot and heavy dialogue. I know I could finish this if I wasn’t reading just for leisure but as I am, I am going to dnf this.

I had expected to like this more than P&P. Whether it’s just where my mood and headspace is at, or the characters, I found it difficult to care about any of the seemingly extremely pedestrian problems. I did think the overall plot and outcomes for each character was satisfying though, just that the granular moments between them felt like chaff. Harsh, I know, but it’s what took me so long to pick it up between sittings. I had the opposite feeling and experience with P&P, oddly enough.

Me encantó este libro.
La prosa de Austen y su forma de ver el mundo, de describir la época y la complejidad de personajes, simplemente me encanta y habría encantado vivir en aquella época.

Good gradual introduction characters. No metaphors. Long sentences, some obscure language. Realistic instead of sentimental, romantic, escapism, sensational, rhetorical, thrilling. Irony and satire. A story about romantic relationships not really my thing.

After reading Pride and Prejudice I wanted to read other works of Jane Austen too. This is how I picked up Sense and Sensibility. Of course right after having read Pride and Prejudice my expectations were very high for this book. However it did not quite meet those expectations. Of course it was still a very enjoyable read but it was not an extraordinarily good one. I enjoyed the story about the family and everthing but the main love storylines were not portrayed that well in my opinion. Of course it is still a very good book, which I liked while and after reading.
