Lips Touch

Horrible title. Horrible cover art. BUT the stories inside are just- I have no words. Well, actually yes, I do. See, down there? More words. So I lied. I apologize for that.

There are three individual stories that are told in this book. One, you might say, reflects on the dangers of goblin fruit (As anyone who's seen Labyrinth could tell you... you might even end up in a David Bowie music video), another descends into a version of hell that most of us are unfamiliar with, and the bargains that are struck there daily.

Bittersweet, wild and untamed fairy tales, each hinges on a fatal moment when LIPS TOUCH. But not like, in a "person eats pickled pigs lips, yes those are an actual thing that people eat, so technically that qualifies as a lips touching moment" kind of way. You know, the other way that a romantic comedy ends with. Minus the cheesy music. Or the witty one-liners. But does it end with a happy ending? Ah, now that remains to be seen.

[chucks this book at your head and screams at you to just read it]

I picked up this book as I read Strange the Dreamer at earlier this year by Laini Taylor and absolutely loved the style of writing. I also loved that before each story there are illustrations that show the story.

I really enjoyed this book especially the second and third story. Laini Taylor takes you back in the fantasy realm of goblins and demons. Her writing style is superb and it gets you hooked form the very beginning.

Story 1 Goblin Fruit : This is about the Goblins and how they steal the soul of young females. This story was my least favourite out of the three, I felt that it ended abruptly but it was enjoyable and has a moral to the story.

Story 2 Spicy Little Curses: This takes you to the world of a lady known as "the old bitch" she is an ambassador in Hell for those innocent souls. She deals with a demon and has to make deals on a daily basis for the souls of the innocent until she has to curse a young female. You watch how the curse manifests with an ending that I was happy with. I enjoyed this story.

Story 3 Hatchling: This story was my favourite out of all three. It had me hooked from the first chapter. You meet the Druj in this story and you learn about how they came about and how they can become human again.

This book was very good. I love the Daughter of Smoke and Bone books, but I didn`t start this one until now because of the title. I don`t know why I don`t like it. It`s just that strange feeling... Like you know you`re not going to like this book.
However it turned out I was wrong. I just loved the stories and the illustrations. I liked the first story, The goblin fruit, best. But (There`s always a but) the main character, Kizzy, I didn`t like. She is different from the strong, clever Karou I`m used to. I think Kizzy was ignoring all the signs. The ghost in that cemetery whispered to her. They actually told her that grave over there was cursed and she knew what had happened to the girl in the grave. And in the end of the story she found out the boy was a goblin and she still kissed him. But I have to stop with this rant now. I mean without the kiss this book wouldn`t have been called that.
To whoever wants to read this book don`t pay any attention to my rant. My rating is 5 stars and I LOVE this book!!!

The beautiful art work paired with the outstanding story and different perspectives from cultures not my own. Laini Taylor's writing is always outstanding and I truly loved the daughter of smoke and bone trilogy, but this book is its own unique beautiful thing that I truly loved

This was really really good.
I would love a full novel of the third story.

I had very mixed feelings about this book. I love the illustrations. The first story was okay, but I loved the second one. The third story I almost didn't make it through. There was so much exposition about half way through that I found it very difficult to read. There were also a lot of terms thrown in from the world that were never fully explained. So I loved parts of it and was less than thrilled with other parts of it.

This was soooo good and just what I needed. Laini Taylor's writing is beautiful and her plots are great! She always manages to surprise me in some way and I love it!

Just not sure how to rate this book. Maybe a 3.5? It's gorgeous and immersive and also disjointed and weird.

3.5

First one was meh, i liked the setting of the second, the third one was just bonkers (in a good way)
