This alphabet book is not for young children, but the illustrations are amazing. Besides the backwards w and v, the behind the story is alright.

I got this from the library out of curiosity; I am a big Gaiman fan.
This was a little dark for kids, so I wonder who the audience is for this children's alphabet book.

The artwork in this book is fantastic. The writing is lyrical and the illustrations are detailed and extrememly interesting. Definitely one to read together with a child.

Good book for young children. I would read it to my own children one day. Had to read this for a literature class I am currently in.

Another great Gaiman tale, of quick witted prose, and scary yet silly, illustrations. This is not recommended, however, for young children just learning the alphabet as it contains a few inaccuracies that add silliness to the story, but may confuse new learners.

A storybook for someone who hopefully already knows the alphabet, because the narrative and art will surely distract anyone from paying attention to the letters’ order. I missed the “dangerous flaw” myself! Gaiman’s story is a delightful adventure that could spook some, especially coupled with the striking illustrative style of Gris Grimly. The artwork reminds me greatly of Tim Burton’s movies with The Nightmare Before Christmas the first to come to mind. I will be seeking out more work by both collaborators. Already I planned to read more Gaiman books, but now I also want to see more of Grimly’s art.
