Charming story about a teen boy in Japan who lives with his grandfather in a small used book store. When the grandfather dies, Rintaro feels lost but his classmates and a mysterious talking cat appear to help him. Through a series of challenges (“labyrinths”), Rintaro learns what he wants to do with his time and he learns what the books mean to him.

I am absolutely the type of person who is the target audience of this book.  Based on the writing, I would have expected this book to be a slower read, but I feel like I swallowed it whole. A book for people who like books, cats, fabulism and introspection.

My Opinion:
I needed a fast and nice read and this was really it. I’m not used to read fantasy, but I love how the Japanese literature wanders through so many subjects in different ways, that made the Whole story enjoyable. The reflections about finding joy in books were so beautiful, and the character’s growth was delightful and sweet. I recommend this for a fun a quick read.
