This is genuinely one of the most haunting books I’ve ever read. I felt physically ill while reading most of it. The two main characters are so complex and I’m going to be thinking about them for a long time.
The ending has left me numb as I process what happened. That last chapter… I don’t even know what to say.
The symbolism of the dead frozen ground. The dog tags. The writing is done so well that this entire story played out like a movie in my head.
I love that we get some answers, but a lot is left for the reader to make their own conclusions. I want to read these books again immediately. I know I won’t be able to come back to them anytime soon though.

I am genuinely unwell. I have been sitting in silence for 30 minutes just processing. I don’t know how I can hate a character so much, only to ball my eyes out for him the last 10% of this book. Shay was failed in so many ways.. this might be one of my top 5 favorite series of all time..
