...which in its own way, fueled the harm Yeong-Hye inflicted on herself, or rather started it.

this is the first story i have finished after a reading slump and all throughout i sought the reasons behind the self-harm, to somehow justify it, and found even myself discarding of the fact that there is no small or big reason needed to react to the years of being assaulted by the people you surrendered to.

El sufrimiento, el dolor y el trauma son fundamentales, la misoginia y la vida de la mujer juegan un papel principal en este libro. Describió a profundidad a través de la naturaleza y los seres vivos ideas como la soledad, la tristeza, el aislamiento, sentir que no hay escapatoria…
si me pongo de cabeza con las manos en el suelo me saldrán raíces y hojas y podré renacer como un árbol? muy lindo libro 🤍

one of the best books i’ve read in a while…. so visceral i had to put it down a couple times and reflect before i went back to it. the ending felt really cathartic but the language of the book was so beautiful. i love a good theme where history repeats itself, everything is repetition. i know yeong hye, the main character, is supposed to be “crazy” and we don’t really see what she sees, but we do and i see her in myself somewhat. real emotions and hardships and trauma manifested into a jail of her own mind
