UH UH! IT'S FINISHED!
It took me a really LOOOOOOONG time to read this mostly because the stories start to blend together... And some are really boring.
The writing is good, the charaters are ok (with Sherlock being funny at times) and there are some good stories (Hound of the Baskervilles anyone?).

I’m sad at how long this took me to read, but it allowed me to slow down and appreciate Sir Arthur’s writing. The character of Sherlock was brought to life through his use of such describing and ingenious words that really shows off the detective’s skills. Although me first experiences of Sherlock, Watson and their cases was through both the TV show and the movies, it gave me a base line into what to expect from the written book. I love the friendship between Sherlock and Watson, and the way Sir Arthur weaves the story around this.
I would highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to take the time to really appreciate how a detectives novel is written.

Fantastic stories. I really enjoyed this and the fact that the complete collection of short stories and novels really gave it a lot of variety.

There are few fictional characters that are so well created and developed that it's hard to believe there are no real. I read these stories in middle school and became a fan of mysteries - it still holds!

“The Sign of Four” is so racist I had no interest in reading on.

Stephen Fry does a phenomenal job of narating this book. His personal forwards to each section are engaging. His love of Sherlock Holmes is evident. The voices and (most) accents showcase his amazing acting range. He brought the friendship between Holmes and Watson to life and did an exemplary job of breathing life into Sherlock Holmes himself. I listened to the book at 1.65 speed though because it was torturously slow to listen to otherwise, but I imagine that a slower reading pace assisted in delivering a consistently stellar performance. I loved every second of it!
