This little book is the most beautiful thing I've read in a long while. I have been wanting forest stories recently, and this gave me exactly what I wanted and more. Having finished it, I feel like I am lying in the moss and bracken in an English forest, watching the leaves sway above me, feeling my skin sink into the earth, losing a sense of time, becoming green. The way Emily Tesh describes the forest's relationship with time is incredibly lovely. The folklore is rather straightforward yet compelling and touching. The cycles of death and rebirth spoke to a part of me that perhaps also goes back hundreds of years, or 3000 years, that has belonged to every one of my ancestors since they first lived among trees. Especially the ones who were queer like me. Like all green things, we were always there.
