Yes. Good. Excellent. Give me more immortal tree gays. It catered to my exact need for queers that are also ancient forest gods/creatures. Look, I already kind of knew I needed that kind of book, I wrote a short story about a non-binary aroace forest deity. But I don't thing I had ever READ something that scratched that itch as well as this duology did.

The story is about the 400 years old Wild Man of Greenhollow Wood, Tobias. He kills dangerous creatures in his wood, cares for his cat and his little cottage, and anxiously waits for every summer and the terrible things it brings. Until one day, a strange, charming and obstinate scholar researching folklore decides he wants to be Tobias friends. Adventures full of ghosts and dryads and corpses ensue.

It's short and weird and the atmosphere, the writing, the yearning, the worldbuilding and the characters entirely were just so good. I don't know who else needs this weirdly specific mix of queer people, old forest gods, and dangerous folklore, but if you do, I would highly recommend this duology. It's a quick read and made me ache for more books like it.

Delightful characters an  vibes for such a short book.  Sometimes the flow was a bit off but really loved how tobias was written. Rule of thumb don't get hit in the head with a magic rock by your friend and own a cat.

A really interesting take on druids, loved the magic and the writing style. A very unique voice. Really impressive debut novel and will be reading the second one.

An odd but charmingly dark fairy tale.
