Bittersweet story. Short. However a clear view of the world. Wasn’t expecting one of the twists but I did expect the end.
Beautiful written and captures the feel of magic in the woods. A quick read and something that pulled me in from the first line. Overall enchanting - if you like stories of the fae but closer to the original stories then this is for you!

This book was wonderful! It was lyrical and moody and completely engrossing. Tobias is such a strange but endearing character. The chemistry between him and Henry was subtle but powerful. The descriptions of the wood were hypnotic and magical. I'm surprised by how much I enjoyed it and my only criticism would be that it ended too soon! Brilliant.

A lovely, lyrical tale and exactly the quick palate cleanser I needed after my last read. I probably could have read this in a single sitting if I hadn't had to stop to take a call. I loved the descriptions of the woods, and Tesh's style fits well with the setting and narrative. I didn't realize how much I wanted to ready a story set in a magical wood until I picked this up (probably because I am stuck inside, along with everyone else). I like Tobias and Henry as characters, and I love Mrs. Silver — can she have her own book? I wasn't a big fan of the instalove, which is a complaint I often have with novellas. It's one of my least favorite tropes, but at least here it was balanced out by the other elements.
There is also a very good cat named Pearl in this story, in case that matters to you, which it should.

So good! Just the right length, wonderful characters, a sweet and sad story. This hit all the right notes for me.
"Good," said Bramble. "He'll need you."
"You won't, though."
"No," she said patiently, "because I'm not a people. But I will still love you."
