4.5 stars! I’ve had this one on my list for YEARS, and I always knew I’d love it. It’s a sweet little fantasy love story between a man who has lived in the forest for a very long time, and a nosy scholar who keeps inviting himself over to his cottage to ask academic questions. Love the difference between the gruff Tobias and energetic Silver. People who love explaining their specific interests is such a cuuuuute thing. Their interactions just made me smile, and the background of the woodland folklore was so intriguing as well. Reminded me of Uprooted in a way, so much nature magic!

I really loved this. Has a great balance of story, mythology, character development, and romance and was just what I needed to start slowly pulling myself out of a months-long reading slump. TOR has a lot of really great novellas that manage to actually tell and complete and satisfying story in such a small space. I'll definitely be looking for more from this author in the future and also probably taking a closer look at TOR's back-catalog next year. Would recommend this to people who like faerie-adjacent mythology and M/M romance stories.

What a great read. I really enjoyed the subtle magics of this book and the world it was placed in. Also, our main characters were so soft and sweet. Their connection feels real and believable
even if one of them is hundreds of years old.

Tobias, the man of the woods and local legend as the green man, has lived in the woods for four hundred years, keeping the humans safe from wayward dryads, while taking care of his little cottage and his cat. Yet everything changes when beautiful young folklorist passes his cottage in a thunderstorm and he invites him in...

Far too short but really great. Mystical, mythical, magical, queer in both meanings. I liked this a lot and I really wish this was a real novel to immerse myself in. Will there be more? I want there to be more. I like this dark mixture of folklore and fairytale.

A quick little read barely over a hundred pages but great nonetheless!

Lovable small cast of characters, great writing, intriguing little story that develops well for how short the book is, surprisingly funny, just an all round great time!

A masterclass in novella writing with absolutely beautiful prose (not too flowery - no pun intended) and a really strong & interesting character voice.
