I felt that throughout, the book had a slow, steady pace, which felt somewhat meditative. This feels apt given the theme of seeing the world through the perspective of trees and old growth, although I didn’t always have the attention span to read for long sittings. The plot has a slow burn to it, but once you hit the climatic event, the story unfolds in a heartachingly bittersweet way.

Somehow, a 100-page book made me cry! All the stars!

I loved getting to meet Tobias and Henry, and their story is so delightful! I loved the fairytale vibe, with a dash of sentient-forest. I'm looking forward to reading the sequel!

A quick fluffy read that was a decent start to my reading this year. I liked Tobias and his take on the world but the plot overall just wasn't there. I probably would have enjoyed this more if it was about 100 pages longer. The plot and the backstory needed more time to fully develop. Mrs Silver was my favorite part. There Is a second book but I don't think I will check it out.

This book captured me so quickly and lit up my imagination in a way little else has recently. With only sparse plot points and descriptions, I found myself engrossed in the mythology and magic of this story… all the time wondering if I was understanding it exactly right. Tesh does not give it all away or over explain, so in a way the mystery of the world is half the fun.

I found it fast moving and enjoyable, with a couple twists that I did not expect. The characters make my heart swell. I want to rush to wherever fan artists are posting these days to see if anyone has drawn scenes from this story. Clearly, this is a new favorite novella of mine.

What a fantastic little story this is I loved it! I read the audiobook of this and I have to say the narrator's voice absolutely sold this story for me, he was incredible! So if you have a chance I definitely recommend getting the audio version.

This little book is a mash-up of folklore, history and fantasy with a good helping of an LGBTQ+ romance topping it off. It's short, sweet and magical and being a novella it's such a quick read. I adored this, and I'm going to start the second novella in this little duology asap!
