Emily Suvada knows how to write, by which I mean, write a fantastic book. From the brilliant characters, to the exquisite plot twists - I couldn’t put it down. Every chapter is just filled with pure intelligence, and she left no questions unanswered by the end of the book. The world was described to immense detail, but she left enough room for the readers’ imagination to fill in the blanks. And because of Suvada’s artful world building, every time I picked this book up I was transported to another world - one that I could imagine to the very last detail. This book is just a masterpiece all the way around, and is most definitely on my list of favorite-books-of-all-time.

While this book puts heavy emphasis on the fiction part of science fiction, This Mortal Coil has an incredibly unique idea that’s pulled off beautifully. It’s break-neck pace, plot twists, and brilliant characters kept me invested and on the edge of my seat the entire time. The romance was a lovely addition to the plot without being overpowering, as it should be considering this is the first book of a trilogy. All together, I was pleasantly surprised by how good this book was and I’d highly suggest it anyone looking for a dark sci-fi read.
