Pawing through an old favourite manga of mine, this time in 日本語, dictionary in the other hand. Bleach might be one of the more difficult series for a low-level learner like me with all its flashy attack names and vocabulary centered around fighting and not ordering beer at an izakaya, which is language I’m more familiar with. But despite the headaches and daunting kanji, I love the slow road of learning!

Ngl, it was really funny how grimmjow just shut ulquiorra up like that LMFAO, they seem to have some kind of a problem going on-

This volume featured some of my favourite moments from the Hueco Mundo arc. It was terrifying seeing Loly and Menoly beat Orihime up when she’s so defenceless. I loved seeing Grimmjow come to her rescue and then insist it wasn’t out of the kindness of his heart, rather him owing her a favour. I loved seeing how despite Loly and Menoly beating her up, Orihime still chose to heal them first after Grimmjow left them for dead, and I loved how this aspect of Orihime’s character perplexed Loly as she can’t even fathom that kind of selflessness. The beginning of the fight with Szayelaporro has filled with awesome moments. I loved Renji and Uryū working together, seeing Renji trap Szayelaporro in order to perform a kamikaze attack with kidō was cool, and I loved how Uryū uses his swords to make a giant explosion. Szayelaporro cannibalizing his own Fracción was brutal and I loved how it had a more gnarly depiction here than it did in the anime. I liked the entire sequence with Ulquiorra punching a hole in Ichigo’s chest in the same spot as his own Hollow hole, and I liked seeing Grimmjow force Orihime to heal Ichigo just so he could fight him and kill him at his full strength. Seeing Grimmjow and Ulquiorra briefly tussle before Grimmjow locks him in a pocket dimension is also an interesting small scene. I liked the ending and the lead up to the fight between Ichigo and Grimmjow, which is a highlight of the entire series.

This was a bit better than last volume if it feels too similar too. What helped was Ichigo feeling hopeless in this world, grimjaw returning, and Quincy and Renji teaming up. All of that worked for me. Sure the story beats are really similar to the Soul Society arc so no huge surprises but least the pacing is quick.
