Flynn creates the most dark, tragic, brooding, gloomy atmospheres I have ever encountered. Absolutely no one is likable in this book. They all live vile, filthy lives mostly undeserving of any respite. It's beautiful writing, really.

But the plot? Amateur at best. A whodunnit with an absolute cop out of an ending. Despite the amazing mood the book set, it left me thinking 'what a fuckin waste'.

Gone Girl was great, this was dismal. Hopefully Sharp Objects will be somewhere in the middle.

Dark, indeed! It kept me locked in to the very end… you know, “just one more chapter,” till I finished it in less than 24 hours.

Great book with a more satisfying ending than Gone Girl. I'm starting to think I'm going to like anything [a:Gillian Flynn|2383|Gillian Flynn|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1232123231p2/2383.jpg] writes. I will be adding more of her books to my To Read list for 2020.
