Anne in Kingsport

This is one of the best novels I have ever read. The characters, whom I've grown very attached to, transition from their years of adolescence to adulthood. We see our favourite red-head, Anne, graduate from college, and experience several triumphs and trifles along the way. Admittedly, I inwardly admonished Anne for letting go of her childhood comrade and (in my opinion) soulmate, Gilbert Blythe, when he professed his love for her. Yet, I never lost hope for the two of them and was squealing with delight when I found that they ended up together in the very last few pages of the book. I especially like the idea of Anne discovering her very own Book of Revelations, as in the bible. I will cherish the idea that there will come a point in life where we make the distinction between the romanticised idea of life's dreams versus what we actually long for deep in our souls.

When they tried to kill the cat… that was too much for me.

Some lovely and moving moments, and the favorite characters from the first books have at least some cameos here. A couple of new characters, especially Phil, are also fun to spend time with. I didn't quite like this as much as the first two novels - the household Anne sets up with her friends at college is fun to read about, but otherwise adult Anne isn't quite as charming a character as she was as a child. Also, a big chunk of the plot is taken up by an annoying will-they-or-won't-they between Anne and Gilbert, which was kind of boring and marred by a not terribly convincing third act separation. Still, a sweet novel and I plan to continue on with the series.

The third installment of the 'Anne Shirley' books sees our heroine going off to college to study for a BA. At Redmond she soon makes new friends - and of course, she has old chums Gilbert, Charlie and Prissy by her side. Anne continues to blossom and has her fair share of suitors, but she still finds time for those she loves back in Avonlea. I'm really loving these books. Anne is such a charming character. I can't believe it took me so very long to discover her!
