I think I missed something. Greatly 😅 this book was rated so highly and I waited 4 months to get it from the library, but it wasn’t worth it. I kept waiting for it to become the exciting thrilling mystery that it was. And it was just a let down. I got to the end of the book and was like that’s it?! I did not enjoy the writing style. There weren’t any big exciting moments for me.

It’s not the best in terms of writing and I sure as heck have personal beef with quite a few of the characters, but overall, it was quite an exciting ride. The mystery and the build-up were very nice, but man, messed up is an understatement when it comes to describing their family and the events surrounding them.

Some parts cliche, some parts predictable, but I think that’s what made it all the more better because unnecessary plot twists weren’t in order and so everything made sense. Plot-holes are ignored on my part (if any) because ultimately, I’m just happy to adventure with everyone. It’s fairly simple, light, and straightforward.

“I told you the day we met that the Hawthorne family was a twisted, broken mess. . . . I never said that I wasn’t one, too.”

This book was SO MUCH FUN!

I won’t say a ton because I don’t want to reveal anything, but this book is one mystery on another on another. The layers are crazy good! And the characters are so dynamic and interesting. I was invested at every second. And I legit didn’t want to stop reading it at times. It was a BLAST!

It’s lacking a 5 star read just because at times it feels a tiny bit cheesy. And I don’t see myself obsessing over this book in the future (like my other five star reads). But this book was a really fun time!

I recommend to people who like fun mysteries, word games, puzzles, family drama, and excitement. Perfect for fans of Knives Out and other fun, quirky mysteries. Also great if people want a fun book to read that feels like you are working your brain without working it in a way that feels hard or boring or like work.
