I enjoy using the I Survived series to add to our history curriculum for homeschool, and was excited to see this version in Graphic Novel format. The illustrations and story line were both appropriate. While it did contain some scenes of injuries, I feel like it was age appropiate for the content. I didn't personally like how a Bible story was thrown into the mix, and why the theme was relevant, I don't think it was necessary in this story. I haven't read many historical books that discuss the Partisan fighters, and enjoyed that exposure into this topic.

This was a very educational read geared towards middle school aged kids. I enjoyed learning about new things, however grim and sobering WWII and the holocaust is, but I do wish it had been less about finding the American dream at the end of it. Obviously that was a reality for many Jewish refugees, but I would have rather spent all of the book in Poland. I guess what I’m trying to say is that it felt like an American book about the holocaust, which is fine, but not what I expected. Still, I think it was well done and a very important book for children to read in school or with their parents. I especially appreciated the timeline of historical events at the end of the book. This would have been a great learning tool for me growing up, and I hope people make use of it now!

Wow. This was an amazing book. The illustrations are fantastic. Someone actually drew all of them?!? I'm amazed. The story is great and had history been presented to me in this way when I was a child, I would have been far more interested than I was. I am fascinated by WW2 historical fiction and when my daughter came home with this book from the book fair, I knew I wanted to read it. I didn't think I would enjoy a graphic novel, but I was very wrong.

Lauren Tarshis, if you are reading this, I met you at BookCon a few years ago and had the opportunity to tell you how much my daughter and I enjoyed your books. This is my first experience with one of your graphic novels and I am definitely interested in looking for more. Thanks so much for making history come alive for kids and adults!!
