I enjoyed this as much as any Zadie Smith and for much the same reasons. I can almost see, hear and smell the neighbourhoods as she describes them. I love the way she writes character. What scares me most about this book is the way the two main characters, although friends since childhood, see each other so completely differently from the way they see themselves. This is something I know to be true to life.

Great book, with possibly the most apt description of a teenage girl experiencing learning about masturbation I have ever read.

This book lacks the magical realism of some of Smith's previous work, and characters' foibles lead pretty directly to pain. Still read it in a weekend, still liked it. I was hoping for more escapism, I guess.

I love Zadie Smith, and each of her books has been so wonderfully different but equally well written. She's such a thoughtful, funny, poignant writer.

Felt transported into a side of London that is less commonly portrayed in books and media, despite the large communities involved.
Now I wish I had a NW accent.

Maybe don’t listen to this as an audiobook? I have not the slightest clue what this book was about, who was who, how they were connected or anything.
