Hail Mary

Lots of talk about Leo Daddy. But not enough about Mary Daddy. Total lady crush.

.5. I am disappointed how underwhelming this book was throughout its entirety. The plot was not well written and the book felt completely rushed. I was a fan of “Blind Side” and I thought the “Quarterback Sneak” was decent but this fourth book was garbage. I am so happy I finished it. I probably will not read anymore of Steiner’s books.

Hail Mary was such a fantastic conclusion to the Red Zone Rival series. I loved how this book started and it was kind of heartbreaking. We get to see why Mary hates Leo so much, because they befriended each other when they started gaming online together. I don’t want to give that part away, but things did not go well and it broke both of their hearts.

Mary lives next door to the football players and Leo offers her a room to stay for the summer when her place has burst pipes. She becomes their roommate and is now in a forced proximity with Leo. He has no idea they have history and doesn’t understand why she hates him. He has been into her since she moved in next door.

She starts to see more in him and falls for him again. I loved their connection and chemistry. It was a slower burn than I was expecting and I was dying for them to talk about their past. I really loved both of the character’s and I loved seeing the other couples.

The beginning definitely had me tearing up! The emotion Kandi was able to convey so early on. I felt everything Mary felt.

sport romance, childhood friends, forced proximity, curvy fmc, and a little bit of a second chance romance!

I love books with strong fmc’s and Mary was just that! she was the star of the show in this book, for sure. she had a take no prisoners attitude and I absolutely adored that about her. she was self-assured and stubborn and very much reminded me of myself in a lot of ways lol

I wish we got to see more of Mary and Leo’s relationship after it was rekindled, as I felt like I would have had a more emotional connection if we got to see just a little bit more fluff between them before the conflict!

Leo was a consistent mmc, but not my favorite of the boys from this series. we got to see a little bit of his struggles growing up surrounding his dad and expectations, but I wish we would have dug deeper into his personality outside of football.

the 3rd act conflict was an actual conflict which I PRAISED. glad the resolution was relatively quick, but it didn’t make it hurt any less

“I had everything I’d ever wanted. All because I begged my parents to buy me Halo.”

“It was Leo, and it was me. It was us. I never knew how much power we held until that kiss showed it to me.”

Mary hates Leo Hernandez. Now she needs a place to live and Leo offers her a free room until her place is restored. Tension runs high as Mary tries to avoid Leo and he can’t resist her. One night when Leo discovers he knows Mary from the past, they have to figure out what it means for their now.

One of my favorite things about this book in particular was the female friendships. While we see them throughout the series, this is the one that really brought them all together. The steam in this one was

LEO HERNANDEZ, SIR!

It's so hard to pick a favorite MMC in this series, but mannnnn Leo may take the cake! This man is delicious!

I loved the backstory with he & Mary, and how fate seemed to bring them back into each other's orbit years later. While I felt so hard for Mary and her high school self, I loved her "glow up" where she came into her own, pursued her dream, & forged her own path without a man! She was true to herself & she is a total badass!

Leo is just *chef's kiss* , with his huge heart that he hides behind the playboy facade! How he was so heartbroken when he thought his gamer crush ghosted him, ugh! I adored him so much, and can we also just appreciate this man's mouth! BLESS IT! He is filthy filthy, and I looooove it!

He and Mary are a couple that will live in my head for a while to come!

PS: I LOVE the girl group! They are girlfriend goals with how they support one another and are just THERE for each other! I loved this dynamic being shown over and over!

PPS: The epilogue made me bawl! (in a good way!!)
