Al principio me costó mucho aceptar el nivel de descripción y la cantidad de listados, pero luego le encontré todo el sentido de ser. Nuevamente feliz de haber decidido darme el tiempo para estos clásicos.
Dark and deep is the ocean. I really liked this. many different adventures that contain wonder and dangers. This book was nothing like I thought it would be. It was breathtaking and intriguing. The reading was tricky and drawn out sometimes. I'm not going to say that This is a major favorite, but it was good. The scenery was surprisingly ever-changing. There was a giant squid. Gold. Icebergs. More adventure than I thought one could find in the ocean and hanging over all of it is the shadow of a captain that rules it with the only thought to conquer everything.

This was my first time reading this book and I have to admit it was better than I expected. I knew there were places that the author would wander off into scientific explanations and I thought it might end up being dry and confusing, but instead, I found it pretty interesting, partly because it was neat to see what he envisioned about futuristic advanced science. It was also interesting just how little we knew about the ocean depths, but while we know a lot more now, the percentage of what we know has probably not increased by that much. There is so much we still don't know about the earth, especially in the very deep parts of the ocean, and to me, that is pretty fascinating. Sadly, like the rainforest, there are probably millions of species that have gone extinct that we will never know existed. I'm not sure why I waited so long to read this, but I'm glad I finally gave it a try!
Highly imaginative, and even steampunk in some ways, this was my favourite of Jules Verne's books when I was a kid
I forgot I had read this book. Really, a great little adventure book. It felt big, when I read it. Makes me want to go back and re-read it.
I will admit -- the intense level of detail and description on the taxonomies of every single organism Arronax discovers got a bit grating after a while, but at the same time it gave the book life and filled the blanks in my head of places I haven't seen (and most likely never will). Reading this gave me such an intense longing to travel around in a Nautilus myself, and led me to dig up my old Blue Planet DVDs, because that is the closest I can get to the wonders of Captain Nemo's world.
This has to be near the sourcewaters of speculative fiction. As I read this book, I felt like I could feel Verne's mind working: "If I could travel under the sea, what sorts of marvelous things would I find?" Early chapters function as a kind of check-list for these imagined wonders: enormous underwater volcanoes, Atlantis, giant squids, the South Pole. And the wonders discovered really are the stars of the adventure. The technology is imaginative and interesting, but only to a point. Captain Nemo is mysterious and conflicted, but served more for me as background noise all all the delicious "what if?"s.
A stunning adventure novel that lives on through the times.
I loved the descriptions of the Nautilus, and all the thrills our protagonist went through. Definitely a must-read for all.

DNF'd around half way through - really expected to like this story since i enjoyed "Journey to the Center of the Earth" but no... maybe I'm not in the mindset to enjoy it and might pick it up sometime in the future but for now its really not doing it for me. 2/5 stars
