Reviews from Depth of Time

This is another book of Meg Cabot!
It might even be one of the first books I've read in English.
But, anyway, once more this Mrs Cabot won my respect.
I loved that book, and its storyline was so original and captivating.
I liked very much the main character and her love interest!
I don't really remember what happened to her enemy, though...
Much time has passed since I read this book.
But, I wouldn't mind reading it all over again, right from the beginning.
So much I liked it!

Totally recommended!

(By the way, I don't know why, but every single time I read the title, the song of the cartoon Winx comes to my mind and I start singing it. Gosh... Jinx-Winx, similar, right? :D )

When you read a Meg Cabot book, you pretty much know what you're going to get. Underdog girl ends up getting the guy that she is really Just Friends with but can't go out with because of (insert roadblock). In this particular book there's also some allegations of withcraft thrown in, but really, same character as any other Meg Cabot book. Not that I'm complaining.

Interesting note: she tries to keep current on trends, which means that books written 5 years ago--this one was copyright 2007--already seem somewhat dated. The boy was typing on his Treo? When was the last time you head that?

3.5*.

A bit stereotypical with the story line (girl gets the boy and they've been in love since they say each other), but with enough uniqueness to keep a reader interested. As always Meg Cabot's writing style is easy to read and impossible to put down.

Look! Another review of a Meg Cabot book. Told you she might be my favourite author! I should really try to vary what I'm reading more maybe. Keep it spicy for my 100 subscribers (yeah, totally reached that number on the weekend and had to share - thanks for subscribing guys!).

I want to begin by celebrating how this was a stand alone book! Wooooo! Those babies are few and far between of late. Almost seems like no book is a one book kinda story anymore. For heavens sake, even Stephen King wrote a sequel to The Shining after 25 years. Anyway. When I discovered that this book was not in a series - I felt joyous and I knew I had to read it.

The story was quite simple, but lovely. There was a surprise for me in it - Meg Cabot seems to lure me into a trusting complacency and then quickly jabs at me with the unexpected! And as always, well done! When Jinx adamantly said she had no idea what Tory was talking about, I foolishly believed her. Got me again Ms. Cabot.

The characters were good - although of the normal Meg Cabot fare. Jinx, Jean, whatever, is super awkward and has no idea that a gentleman is interested in her until pretty much the last page of the book (shocker). And the boy obviously saves the day (annoying). The villain is a spoiled, rich kid (awesome). And the parents, or guardians, are pretty much non-existent in the story (wicked, if a bit convenient).

Overall, it was a good book with a quickly paced plot. I never really got bored - so that's something!

Another typical Meg Cabot teen romance, but with a little fantasy twist: one of two cousins may be a witch! Sophomore Jean, nicknamed "Jinx" for her seeming curse of eternal clutziness, moves from Iowa to New York City to live with her cousin Torrance and her family; she needs to get away from something she did that didn't turn out right. She's trying to fit in with Torrance's druggy friends, while staying true to her farm fresh ideals, but she's fallen in love with gorgeous Zach--and because Tory loved him first, there's going to be trouble! Will Tory use her powers to ruin Jinx's life? The witchcraft stuff is always sort of "could it be real? Or could it just be a coincidence that these things are happening?" So it's not one I'd recommend to fans of more "real" witchcrafty books. It's kept pretty light. But it at least kept me more interested--I'm starting to tire of Meg Cabot books, they all seem to be about the same girl...

I chose to read Jinx because I love Meg Cabot books and I thought why not? Although, it did take a long time for me to start reading after I saw and I don’t even know why! But I’m glad I did because it was an awesome read.

Jinx is about Jean, who thinks she is cursed. Wherever she goes, misfortune follows. That’s the reason she had to move to New York from her small town, Iowa. I’m not giving the real reason here, because I would probably spoil the suspense.

So, now we have Jean, living in New York and trying to fit in with her cousin Tory’s crazy friends. Turns out the kids in New York are way more sophisticated than the ones back home.

It turns out Tory has a secret. A secret that quite a lot of people know about, but very few people believe. Jean doesn’t want to believe her secret but she knows it’s true. After all, Jean is also part of this little secret.

Again, I’m not elaborating because of the fear that there may be spoilers. I pretty much dislike reviews with spoilers, because if you’re telling me the story, then why should I read the book?

Meet Zach. Tory has a huge crush on him and Jean does too, sorta. But Jean knows that Zach is in love with somebody else, and so she and Zach are just friends. Jean even helps Zach get his girl, but who knows if he actually wants the help.

(Right now, I’m trying to make the story as alluring as possible, but I’m not your best writer, so I don’t know if I’m doing a good job or not)

If you’re a fan of YA novels, you know how this goes, right? Zach is most definitely going to end up with Jean. This isn’t even a spoiler, this is an obvious fact. I’ve read so many of these books that I can figure out most plot twists. Who know why I still love them!

Anyways, this book is definitely one of my favourites. I don’t know how many times I’ve read this, don’t know how many times I’ve replayed the words in my head. In fact, after writing this, I’m probably going to read it again!

Jinx combines mystery and magic with a little bit of romance, of course (it wouldn’t be a Meg Cabot book otherwise). I highly recommend it and I hope you love the book as much as I do.
