Picked up this book again for the first time in like 8 years because it used to be a childhood favorite of mine. Still cute- definitely YA- but nice to revisit.

Fun story, quick read.

2012 (first read): ⭐⭐⭐/5 Stars
2021 Update (second read): ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 Stars

Jinx has to go live in NY with her aunt because she had a problem with her boyfriend. THere, she thinks she can escape her "no luck string". But with a cousin who's persuaded she's a witch and a next door neighbor who seems to be interested in her (even if she doen't see it!), her plate is quite full!!!!

Once again, Meg CAbot delivers a good book. It's fun, filled with humor and has a little bit of supernatural in it. I enjoyed reading this book.

I loved Meg Cabot's young adult novels when I was a teenager, and I probably would have LOVED this book seven years ago. I thought it was quirky and fun but predictable. The language used was very "tween" with a lot of "crushes" and "whatevers." Still, I enjoyed it.

i am meg cabot trash and not even mad about it.

i am quoting my friends here to tell you why this book is so great:

"the best part of the book is how much of a disaster everyone is. no one has working brain cells."

"wow that was the dumbest book i've ever read and i thoroughly enjoyed it."

I knew I wouldn't like this before I started. But challenges demand sacrifice and all that.
I hate these teenagers. They are...well pathetic but also super-villain-esque while still being blatantly vapid and worthless.
Also, parents-feel shame why don't you.
Where the fuck were you?
Cutting off a poor rat's head and hanging it from a locker over a dude?
Die you pathetic twit.
You are 16, don't drink other people's blood-its not hygenic. Or badass, its gross. And disturbing. Pathetic. Have I mentioned how pathetic?
Read a goddamn book or something.
There is nothing redeeming about these shitheads. And Lindsey and Gretchen...oh the lemmings of stupidity.
SpoilerWell, I don't wanna be here but sure, I'll just help you tie up this girl and slice her up and drink her blood...

Even our MC was....bland. Tolerable, I suppose but just boring as hell.
Thank god its over.

A nice palette cleanser.

This is the first book of Meg Cabot that I read. I've seen the library shelves lined wide with her many books and was looking for a relatively non-supernatural/post-apocalyptic novel. Although this book does involve magic, the story is more about a teenage girl getting comfortable in her skin at odds with her competitive cousin. I found the main character, Jinx, pretty annoying slow on the uptake about way too many things, mostly ruining any love I could have for the novel. It is well written though and fun.

Great book! Not at all like Casting My Heart, buy it did give me dreams about what will happen to Dillon and Cassie in the future!!!!!!!:D
