Aycayia made my heart hurt. I just felt so much pain and love for her. I'll be honest I bought this for the cover and the name, but it really made an impression on me. I thought it was so well written and had so many dark themes making it both an interesting and surprisingly emotive read.

Didn't spot the 'literary' tag, should have known better 😅 Discussed some important themes in some interesting ways, this style of writing just isn't for me.

I don’t like reading SA
I’m also a massive prude and don’t like reading/watching even consensual sex
This book has so much of that

Basically I was not into the most of this book.

Unfortunate, I was hoping for a beautiful fantasy on the islands & sea and got a tangled mess of racism, misogyny, SA, and more.

Those topics are very important and the perspective was good to experience, but I felt…. That it was off somehow. I’ll think on it but
TL;DR It was not what I was expecting/hoping for.
