This was so fucking insane.
The worldbuilding was definitely the coolest part - a planet where the sun itself is deadly and you have to constantly outrun it around the planet in order to have a functional civilization? Insane. And that’s even getting to how all this is powered which was even more what-the-fuck.
This book also had so many implications for the rest of the Cosmere and it’s all just so much. First of all, finding out who Nomad is and his crazy history and also the fact that he thinks is mindblowing. I’m so freaking stressed for how the rest of Stormlight will turn out. The future of Scadrial, while technologically impressive, just makes me deeply hate them as a society and I hope that doesn’t color future Mistborn books. And reading [b:Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell|21411388|Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell|Brandon Sanderson|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1426179951l/21411388._SX50_SY75_.jpg|40712188] was definitely a good idea before reading this because that world was referenced multiple times.
The story itself proceeded at a breakneck pace, and I was just so captivated throughout. Unlike most books, I couldn’t even begin to imagine how the problems would be solved, and the actual solutions were so satisfying.
There was unfortunately a couple things that kept the book from being perfect:
- Because we can’t find out what specifically happened to Nomad without spoiling Stormlight (presumably), it felt l like we didn’t get to see Nomad’s real emotional arc in the book, just a distilled version of it. I’m sure this book will hit even harder once the rest of Stormlight is out.
- I usually don’t mind Sanderson’s prose even though people complain about it all the time, but in this book I felt like it was just really serviceable, but it was only a minor annoyance.

Amazing read. Sanderson continues to not disappoint. I’d love to read more about the main characters, be it Nomad or Rebeke.
