Good as always from Sanderson, but I should have read the Way of Kings before reading this book. Still enjoyed the book nonetheless.

This freaking rocked, oh my gosh.

Thoroughly enjoyed everything about this as a fun summer read! The worldbuilding was fun, the ties to the rest of the cosmere were fun, as usual I have a few more questions than I have answers buuuuuut I have come to expect that. I laughed, I came close to crying, I got that feeling of sweet vindication, I will be reading it again I'm sure

Read swiftly after learning this book was intended as #4.5 in the Stormlight Archive before Wind and Truth.

By all accounts this isn’t a bad book, it’s just not a great one either. I think it’s lost in its own intent. It possesses elements that aid to being a standalone novel, while being deeply entrenched in Cosmere lore (many aspects of which never get answers unless you have read their books before).

He reveals its flaws in the post-script himself. It’s “epic fantasy” at a “breakneck pace”, which makes some sequences drag awkwardly — while others are VERY condensed. That, coupled with how nearly the entire novel is single perspective, leaves a strangely long-but-also-rushed feel. It’s also classic western (or Mandalorian) plot of “person dropped into planet helps locals and leaves”. Quite cliche at times — with deep flavors of YA and over explanation.

It’s a fun book and an easy read, but it’s probably best kept for those who are BIG Cosmere fans. This book showed that Sigzil is a great character, and I’m really just a Stormlight Archive reader at the end of the day…

I've had a hard time getting into the year of Sanderson books. I didn't even finish any one of them when they came out. I tried but it just didn't click...
And then... Well. Then my audiobook credit run out. I don't have money. So i thought, hey ! let's give the audiobook of the year of sanderson another shot.

The sunlit man was good. Not my favourite, but it was a welcomed (short) story in Cosmere. The main thing that i loved?! Revisiting old character. And as I had finished "Wind and Truth" earlier this year, this connection was just "chef's kiss".

So overall: a good story, a good plot (what would you expect) and a good change in between different series !
