I don't know if I hated this book or liked it. Is it a 1 star or a 5 star? I don't know.
It was intriguing, disgusting, frustrating, vulgar and still somehow beautifully written. I hated the main character at times, but I felt for her and felt with her. Some of her actions were understandable in the context of the book, but then again utterly unforgivable.

As one can see I am undecided, but what I know is that his book evokes strong emotions and made me reflect on love, obsession, mental health and human connections

If “Well, well, well if it isn’t the consequences of my actions” was a book. My mentality going into this definitely has influence on my review. The synopsis for this book made it sound like going into a whimsical fantasy romance, and the downward spiral of the FMC is anything but. Do I get it, yes. Is it what I expected and wanted at this time? No. It’s a sad journey with a woman’s addiction to Love and her terrible sexual encounters. Some major warnings/spoilers:
the doggo dies from tranquilizer OD/neglect
menstrual cunnilingus, anal sex,
she digs a turd from her ass while cleaning herself for potential anal, it’s a small chapter dedicated to this
. Some moments also felt like the FMC was trying to be so deep, but it just felt so forced and fake to me, and maybe that was the point? Who knows.

I don't normally read a book by recommendation when I didn't even know the genre but I guess I was bored and had an audible credit (very dangerous scenario tbh). I wasn't expecting a very dark satire of monster lover books. I honestly haven't read any monster lover books so I wasn't sure it was a real satire but nothing about this was sexy, and I am pretty sure on purpose. I would describe this book as female Bojack Horseman without the fame. It is very much about the main characters depression and from a very real perspective on it.
they kill the damn dog though and honestly I hate that damn trope. To the point where I wonder why people write dogs in at all other than to get a cheap cry out of someone. It is honestly the laziest plot device and it doesn't change in this book either.

I really feel like this book had some interesting ideas and some really compelling sections
(namely the chunk near the end when she’s contemplating suicide via having Theo drown her)
but the main character was so annoying that I literally could not enjoy it.

Also I think Lucy would be a terf (too much “divine feminine” crap from her)
