I decided to read this in Japanese after watching the anime. Straight up best decision of my reader's journey. It turned into the first Japanese book I have completed and it took me only 2 weeks. Can't help but feel proud of myself.
At the same time, it is worth it to praise the book as well.
Obviously, I was already very attached to the characters thanks to the anime, but the light novel certainly helped me understand some of their motivations a lot better. The way MaoMao thinks is just so unique and entertaining. It's in total contrast to her stiff formal speach to her superiors. Jinshi, too, is such a complex persona and while he is mostly comedic in this book, one can easily spot the deeper nuances of his character through subtle hints such as his speech changing to adapt 俺.
I have already picked up the next book in the series and plan to continue with all of them!
