Thorns from the Fall was such a satisfying conclusion to this dark, emotional duology. After everything that happened in book one, I honestly didn’t know how Roman and Gwyn could ever recover—but Jess Wisecup made it work, and in a way that felt honest and earned.

Gwyn is still fierce and unapologetically gray, and Roman’s pain and fury were so raw on the page. The tension between them? Perfection. But what I loved most was how they both grew. Their relationship is messy, intense, and complicated—but somehow, it still led to a happy ending that felt real.

If you enjoy dark romance, enemies-to-lovers, and morally gray characters fighting for love, this one will absolutely hit the mark.

I liked the serious side of it and the realistic depictions of mental health. It felt rushed at the end though. So many things came out of nowhere. The story makes sense, technically, but it seems unearned/convenient given we didn’t know any of this and had no way of knowing.

First, and I say this with my entire chest out, Jess did that! This duet (I hadn't read Book One, even though it had been in my TBR for a bit—do not miss out on part one of this story. You'll thank me later!) gave me all the urban fantasy vampire vibes, with some real world issues and themes I was pleasantly surprised to see play out so beautifully. I'm not going to assume Jess Wisecup (the author) has dealt first-hand with some of these themes (depression, suicide ideations), but she 100% did her homework, and for that I appreciate her beyond words. In short, she got it right!

Now, to Gwyn and Roman, simply put, they are delicious together. The push and pull of this duo make the end game that much sweeter. You'll enjoy this if the slow burn is not for you. These two went 0-100 quick, and it was fabulously good. Given the nature of their abilities, it didn't feel off at all. For the rest of us mere humans, this wouldn't bode well, but for the supernatural, ehh, we let it ride.  Gwyn is messy, but that's to be expected given her grief, her motive, and her personal struggles.

Please check the content warnings, but otherwise enjoy this too hot for summer (and your mama) read!

I want to thank Haus of Fables PR and author Jess Wisecup for including me in the ARC team. All opinions are my own.

Jess you’ve done it again with another amazing book! These books are everything a spicy dark romance reader could want!
Vampires, witches, hybrids and a whole lot of spice!
Your characters are so easily loveable and at times 100% relatable even if they are the undead!
Real life problems thrown in with a side of forever living!
The story plot just got better and better for me and the ending was never what I would have expected and everything we learnt along the way was even better!

Once again we follow Gwen and Roman and their cohort on the journey, this time to remove the heart of an ancient vampire. Except he isn’t who they thought he was. The things that happen to Gwen’s friends and Romans brother along the way make their journey a little more complex, but what would a vampire world be without something out of the ordinary!

Want to know what happens? Well you’ll just have to read to find out!

This was a really enjoyable read.  The story line with the FMC is so interesting. The mental health representation is this is amazing. The way the MMC and FMC interact is hilarious. The twist and turns definitely kept me reading. Just when I thought I had everything figured out…nope, plot twist!

After killing Bjorn and taking over the Chicago vampire coven, Gwyn is more powerful and more dangerous than ever. Roman should hate her. She murdered his best friend and tore apart everything he thought he stood for. But instead of staying away, he finds himself pulled deeper into her orbit. And when his long-lost brother suddenly returns, things spiral into a storm of revenge, lust, grief, and impossible choices.

The push-pull between Gwyn and Roman is magnetic. One moment they're at each other’s throats, literally, the next it’s steamy make-out sessions in the shadows of their enemies. It’s enemies-to-lovers, grief to obsession, love-to-battle kind of energy and it works.

Jess Wisecup really leans into the dark in this dark paranormal romance. The trauma, the loyalty wars, the moral grayness it all hits hard. Plus, the vampire world feels rich and cutthroat, with political backstabbing and supernatural intrigue that keep the stakes high, pun intended. Overall it's a deliciously dramatic end to a duet full of heartbreak, bloodlust, and heat.

❗️What to expect!
🧛‍♂️Brutal vampire politics and shifting power dynamics
💔Unresolved grief and brother trauma
❤️‍🔥Tension-filled romance with a LOT of angst
🗡️Epic betrayals and gut-punch plot twists
👸Gwyn being a badass, ruthless queen
💫Roman falling apart and maybe falling in love too
