I can confidently say I love everything Jess Wisecup writes. She took a genre I don’t typically like, made it dark and super toxic (also not my thing) and yet somehow had me enthralled.
Thorns From the Fall picks up where we left off in Feathers From the Sky. Roman obviously has lots of feelings about Gwen after the coupe, and neither of them can seem to let the other go. It is a true enemies to lovers story. Even their HEA is a bit dark and twisted and it suits the characters and the story perfectly.
I will say this story felt like it meandered a little more than FFTS, but I think we also dealt a lot more with internal struggles in mental health. I also think the writing style is what shines in this duet - aptly named given the prose feels more melodic - and that fluidity is more noticeable in Thorns From the Fall.
All in all, I loved the characters, I loved the style, and I loved the ending. I’m really glad I branch out from my comfort zone to read this.

Thorns From the Fall is the second book in the Hunting Vengeance duology. The book picks up right after the events in Feathers From the Sky where Gwyn, the FMC, and Roman, the MMC, initially meet. After the sudden change of events tensions are high and feelings are frayed, however, the aftermath is only just beginning. As Gwyn and Roman, and everyone around them, are trying to come to terms with everything, the two of them also struggle to figure themselves out.

Thorns From the Fall is an angsty, steamy, emotional ride that is sure to captivate you. However, as with the previous book, there is a Content Note that should not be ignored; there is heavier material discussed/mentioned/implied in this book. Thank you so much Haus of Fables and Jess Wisecup for the gifted ARC! All opinions are my own.

What a fantastic conclusion to this vampire dulogy! After the jaw dropping ending to book 1, I was so glad I was able to go straight into my eARC of book 2!!

This picks up right where book 1 left off with that jaw dropping cliff hanger. Rowan is stunning, betrayed, and heartbroken, and Gwyn has some regrets, especially since she is realizing her feelings for Rowan.

The cat and mouse game between these two continues. Gwyn tries to short through her feelings (and they are DIFFICULT to deal with), all while trying to scheme further now that her goal of controlling the coven has been achieved. Rowan wants to somehow get his brother back from Gwyn, all while placating her to achieve this goal, and struggling with his leftover feelings. Additionally, there’s a fine line between hate and passion between these two and they struggle to separate the two as they continue to fall into bed together.

On the surface, this may look like a sex-filled vampire romance. But there are real life issues such as depression, suicidal tendencies, and self hate that are addressed. These characters have a lot of depth and I got emotionally attached!

Read this book if you like:

🩸a world with vampires, witches, warlocks
🩸forced proximity
🩸plus sized FMC
🩸blood play
🩸hate s3x
🩸mental health rep

Thank you so much to the author and Haus of Fables for the electronic advanced readers copy!

Jess really threw her whole cabussy into finishing off this story and it was beautiful.  It’s is ‘vampires’ meets ‘Mr & Mrs Smith’ meets ‘revenge! Vs revenge?’

So many heartbreakingly relatable moments tied up amongst hilarious dialogue. Like you are really using a dismembered limb as a weapon??? Hilarious.
The mental health rep was so beautiful and tragically done that it just made all my worst parts feel seen.

Thank you to @haus.of.fables_pr for this ARC!

This one hurts to write. I was so hyped going into this book. Book 1? An easy 5-star. But this? This felt like I accidentally picked up a completely different series. The only character I genuinely liked was Niko. Roman? Fine. But everyone else? Who are you people?

🚨 Mild spoilers ahead 🚨

Gwyn’s betrayal could’ve been workable—she seemed to regret it almost immediately—but then it just kept spiraling. And when Roman retaliated (which was totally fair), she had the nerve to be mad? Girl, be serious.

Her depression was portrayed decently, but it veered too hard into “woe is me because my terrible choices had consequences.” Meanwhile, Remy’s mental health arc? Heartbreaking and well done from start to finish.

I’m annoyed, I’m disappointed, and I’m grieving the book this could have been. But I still love this author and I’m definitely sticking around for what she writes next. Just... hoping for fewer personality transplants next time.

This is the second book in a duet and it immediately picks up where the first book ended. I was in suspense throughout the entire book. It is full of tons of twists and turns with a quick moving plot. Wisecup is not afraid to bring the spice.

Gwyn is just as fierce in this book as the previous book. I enjoyed how we glimpsed more into her mental health and some of the other characters. Roman was my favorite. I loved reading his chapters and seeing his internal monolog as the events from book one and this novel unfolded. Wisecup did a good job fleshing out the side characters. I would love to see more Nico in the future.

Please be mindful of the author's trigger warnings. This book has heavy topics within it and while I enjoyed it, it may not be for everyone.

3.75/4 stars, I enjoyed the conclusion of Gwyn and Roman’s story. I felt the pacing was a bit rushed in some areas, especially towards the end when there was some major moments that I felt were glossed over to reach the epilogue of the story. Overall I liked the book and appreciate how the author represented mental health  in this duology. Thank you to Haus of Fables for the ARC!

“Roman was able to love someone like me. I just don’t deserve it anymore.” 😭

“Swearing an oath to my uncle had been worth the eternal bullshit I’d have to put up with, as long as I got a chance to tell her how I felt while attempting to free her.”

“I long for his violence and his embrace, for his simmering hatred and his fire.”

“We’re both so fucking messy in so many ways and god dammit if I never want it to stop.”

“There’s a soft piano playing in my lungs, gentle fingertips expertly finding the lingering melody after striking major chords within me.” 😍

These two are messyyyyyyyy but in the best way.

Our mans is big mad, and ya girl is big sad (to the point that I imagine it to be VERY triggering, so take care of your mental health friends!)

Roman is dealing with a huge betrayal and left to wonder if anything was real or just part of a scheme, so he’s dealing with the defeat of being used while Gwen comes to terms with the fact that she didn’t intend for any of it to be real because Roman was a means to an end but we caught feels.

Nico needs a novella - frfr

Literally sent a chat to the author inventing her full government name (JESSICA ELIZABETH JANINE MARIE WISECUP IV) because she hurt my feelings so gd bad.

I got mad, I laughed (seriously, some of these lines are fkn hilarious), I was devastated, and then my heart was mended in the end.

What. A. Ride. 😝 This book specifically, but the duet overall, was steamy, emotional, and had several twists that I absolutely did not see coming. 🤯 I would say, for anyone reading these books, pay attention to the Content Note in the beginning...Wisecup is not messing around, and there are some heavy themes addressed in the story. Overall, this was just a beautiful, dark, love story. If that is something you enjoy, then this set of books will be right up your alley. 🥰
