Now, tbh if not for the part where the creature described it's experiences I would have rated this novel with 3 stars. The writing, otherwise was not quite my taste.

Coming to the plot, oh boy, it's heart wrenching and almost depressing. It is miserable from the very beginning. And many a times what we don't realize is that a villian sometimes can also be comforting, because the reader can blame and curse them to their heart's satisfaction. But in this one, oh boy! It is a story with neither a hero or a villain. At times, I felt so sorry for the creature and at others I cursed it and same goes for Victor. And oh the other poor characters! You can't condemn only a single being, both the protagonists are to be held accountable.

As a conclusion, if you want to read something that will tear your heart into pieces go for it!

A good book for a dark and stormy night, however if you are reading this because you love the movies, I would suggest reading something else.

I read this again because I’m teaching it in AP Lit and does this book really need an explanation for the 5 star review?
As far as classics go, this one takes the cake. It’s dense and rich with motifs, symbolism, and forces readers to contemplate complex theological and humanitarian issues. Not to mention, Mary Shelley was a straight up badass.
