This book was sort of . . kind of okay. I found it pretty weird how Morgan & Brandon were able to pull off a relationship; that's really the only thing that stuck out to me, if I'm honest. Considering they were actually siblings makes me wonder how far they took their public displays of affection. It was in poor taste; I feel like there could have been another way of them hiding their familial connection.

All and all, I was okay with some parts of the book and at other times, I was disappointed. There was something missing; I'm not sure what though.

Morgan O'Malley just wanted to do research for her television show that explores different styles of sexuality. When she is put in contact with a Dom, they agree to meet but Morgan has no idea what he has in store for her.

Bodyguard Jack is more than pleased by what he sees when he meets Morgan, set on revenge for a betrayal years ago she is the piece that will make turn about fair play. Jack is ready to get his world rocked though when the reason Morgan fled LA has followed her and is shooting at her. Jack swears he will protect her until they figure out who is behind the stalking, but he is in for one heck of a fight as he sees a sub waiting to be released and the only woman he was ever meant for is now caught in the tangled web he has cast.

Intriguing story, as it unfolds you are pulled in even more. I gave it a 4.75, it had a missing piece at the end. Jack is a Dom through and through, even though he can be harsh at times you get insight on what he is struggling with internally when it comes to Morgan, softening him up. Really good book.

This was my first Shayla Black novel and it will probably be my last. I didn't really believe or like the characters that much, and the sex was just o.k. I sort of sped read through the last third, not really caring. Plus, it was $13 on Amazon for the Kindle edition which was $4 more than paperback edition. Not worth it at all. I don't know if books written in her pen name are different, but I really didn't love this.

First of all - this book is not a perfect example of a Dom/sub relationship. But the great thing about it is that it allows a sexually repressed woman to step into a more open-minded lifestyle that allows her to experiment and embrace her sexuality for exactly what it is. As opposed to what she was told it should be. So, kudos to Shayla Black.

I won’t go into a big synopsis of the book and the characters in this review, but my thoughts are available on my channel. Here’s an abridged version of my thoughts.

In as sweet a voice as I can muster I have to say, piss off if you think there is too much sex in this book. It’s an erotic romance. It’s a book about sex with a bit of story in it. It’s hot. Unapologetically so. And I love it for that.

That said, there are some problems. It starts out as a revenge story for our hero, Jack. He’s also does a bit of mansplaining and he’s pretty manipulative. Consent is a bit dubious at times in this story. And the whole video taping thing? Not forgivable in any real life situation.

Speaking of, if I reviewed this book for it’s roots in reality than one star would be pushing it. Seriously.

Also, there is a lot of inner monologue in this books. Most of the book - well, not most because most of the book is sex - but it feels like most of the book is stuck inside their heads. And Morgan’s incessant denial of her submissive nature for much longer than necessary gets a bit annoying.

Overall, I have to take publication date into account. This was before the market became saturated with BDSM fiction. This book was a rarity then and that matters. Jack is very problematic and to an audience of modern day, reasonably feminist women this is a 2-3 star book depending on taste. But, entertainment means a lot to me. And considering this is a frequent re read, I have to give it four stars.

I'm reading this series out of order. I read the fourth one first. The author appears to have gotten better at plotting as the series has progressed. The sex is done well. The plot is flimsy at best. I'd give it a 3.5 actually.

LOTS of hanky panky. Lots and lots and lots and lots. But... at least it's well-written hanky panky.

There is a larger story told here, despite the copious amounts of hanky panky. It's surpringly suspenseful and fleshed out, the characters are fully developed, and the underlying story captured my attention right away.

However, the whole "oh no, we can't... well, maybe just this once... but no, we really shouldn't... well okay, but this is the last time" routine gets really old, really fast. It makes me want to scream.

One of the first erotic novels I read and still one of my ultimate fave. Morgan is an absolutely amazing character, stubborn, strong, very relatable. Jack is... Jack is my no. 1 fictional crush.

The premise of the story was good. I liked Jack being a bodyguard and Megan being the host of a cable show with questions about her sexuality who comes to interview him as a dom. When she is stalked and attacked I would expect the police to be involved, particularly when shots are fired in public (but then I suppose there wouldn't be a story). What I found frustrating and then irritating was both their almost instantaneous deep love, their constant misinterpretations of what the other is saying or feeling, and the ridiculous choices they make based on those misinterpretations in the midst of a dangerous stalking situation. A simple "what do you mean?" could have cleared up a lot of their problems.

The spice was flawless! Some of the non-spicy parts were a little slow, and the big twist was predictable, but a great read overall.
