Wonderful poetry about nature, life, and Irish history. Anyone interested in Ireland should definitely read this.
Minor: Death and Religious bigotry
There's references to Bog mummies (death bodies preserved in bogs) and the conflict between Catholics and Protestants.geektastically's review

I can't accurately put into words my feelings on this poetry. It'll make you think and feel things and think and feel some more. Just like I think good poetry should do to a person.

not the kind of poetry I'm used to reading but I appreciated the imagery and Irish themes throughout

My first foray with any of Heaney's work, and I was happily surprised by the comfort and revelation of his voice and style. The first book, Death of a Naturalist was my favorite of the four and Wintering Out was my least favorite. My favorite poem was Mid-Term Break - one of the most heartbreaking endings to a poem that exists. I own this collection on audio, read by Heaney himself, and it's excellent.
