Well, this book has a lot more going on than the first book in my opinion. The side trips and seemingly pointless side stories just did not make any sense. All that was really needed was what happened toward the end. Of course, you can't take and make a book out of a couple of chapters. When I read the 3rd book, I realized that everything in this 2nd book had a purpose. I am glad that I had the chance to read all 3 in sequence.
This book ranks 3rd out of the 3 books. It had a little more adventure than the first, but it was "seemingly" pointless until I read the 3rd book.

2.5 really, but we'll round up to 3.
I didn't enjoy Fever as much as Wither, but it's seldom the 2nd book of a series is my favourite - I have a theory about 2nd books. Can't be bothered to share it yet again here.
Anyways, Ms. DeStefano is a beautiful writer, even if clearly the product of creative writing classes (not that there is anything wrong with that). The problem I have, with both novels, is they seem to lack substance. They're ethereal and beautiful - but the plot seems to float along on pretty words and interior dialogue. And while some writers can get away with this, it isn't working for me here.
I also have some character issues. Almost all are flat - and Rhine, oh Rhine, is so contradictory it hurts. Without spoiling too much, at one point she decides she would rather die on the outside than live in glittering walls...only to prove herself wrong a few pages later.
I will continue to read the series. But they won't be books that ever hold a place on my shelf. I hope Ms. DeStefano grows as a writer, and we see more oomph and substance in her future endeavors.

Really liked this addition to the Wither/Chemical Garden series. Waiting to be able to read this again.
Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. Destefano's language is absolutely gorgeous and her symbolism is amazing and insightful. Her world is hauntingly depressing and captive. Rhine is a likeable heroine with weaknesses that make her more likeable. The plot took twists and turns that were unexpected yet believable. I absolutely loved this book and I devoured it.
The only thing that bothered me a little was Rhine and Gabriel's relationship seemed to progress a little like instalove, yet I still root for them. Also, Rowan seems like a douchebag.
4.75 stars!
These covers are amazing. Just cover lust galor.

Why does it always seem that the second book in a trilogy is filler? That said, I did enjoy the book. The story held my attention even if parts of the book were bland. I'm anxious for book three to find out how this ends. nowt of book twos action was at the end. I hope book three picks right up.

I just finished reading the second book in the Chemical Garden series, Fever, and I can't wait to read the last one!
The titles of each book are perfect for the content of the books, like how Rose and Jenna withered away in Wither. In this book, you have both Rhine and Gabriel suffering from a fever. And the way Lauren wrote the scenes where Rhine was sick were amazingly trippy and I loved reading them.
The surprise at the end was awesome and it has me really excited to read the next book!
Fever was an awesome book considering it was the second in a trilogy! Some series tend to loose their OOMPH in the second book for me, and this one had me reading without wanting to put it down, just like the first. Sever, no doubt, will be an awesome final book for this series!

as this series continues on to the second book, the trilogy get bettter and better. This one was a lot better than the last one. The first was kind of boring but interesting. Enought to pull to in the series. this one is meant to keep up and wish for me. Rhine is finally on her way back to her home and brother but things keep getting in the way. and then she finds herself back to where she started. and the ending...well, let's just say that you will want the next book right away.
Definetely a weird world this is haha!
I’m surprised in how twisted these books are and I hope we will never get to this in the future.
I thought it was a little bit slow at the beginning, slower than the first book...
But the ending makes me want to read the third book, and luckily I have it on my eReader too!
This writingstyle is so nice to read in the train at my way to work or home. I love the travels nowadays because I can read then!
Really curious what the third book will be like!
