Super fun and fast read! Some of the characters are interesting and I loved reading about them, others I didn’t like but still wanted to know more, and a couple just felt bland (but only like three). The plot was a great adventure and I loved following along with the puzzles in and around the Hawthorne family! I definitely can’t wait to read the next two books.

I hadn't read a fictional book by choice since my freshman year of high school. I'm 23! When I saw a Tik Tok about this book, I was like "wait... okay..." and decided to get it. It was so good. It got me back into fictional books, something I genuinely never saw myself doing.

One thing I do want to add/ warn about is how the main characters are all teens, and between this book and the second one there is quite a bit of r*mance/k*ssing.... Since I am 23, that whole concept really makes me really uncomfortable and I always have to skim through these parts. I'm not sure if this is a common viewpoint to have, but I wanted to give that warning anyway!!

Songs:
  • no body, no crime by Taylor Swift- fits the mystery and murder vibes of the story pretty well
  • …Ready For It? by Taylor Swift- “baby, let the games begin”
  • willow by Taylor Swift- for the romance
  • Better Man (Taylor’s Version) by Taylor Swift- for Libby
  • Better Than Revenge by Taylor Swift- revenge!!!
  • Safe and Sound by Taylor Swift- I think they all need this by the end

I enjoyed this book fine, I’ll definitely be picking up the 2nd one. There’s just a few things that bugged me. The plot line was pretty engaging, and I liked most of the characters fine. But a lot of the times there just felt like too many main characters to try and keep track of, especially when they were all essentially supposed to be suspects. Also the repetitiveness!! That was honestly driving me nuts. There were like 2/3 lines that the main character KEPT repeating. You only really need to have them say it 2 or 3 times for it to stick, and it such a short book, saying them 8 times was not necessary. This is kind of a spoiler but not really
the whole Emily plot line was incredibly unnecessary feeling? Like I get that her death was used to bring Grayson and Jameson together, but JESUS
I am excited to see where this book goes in the future. There were some genuinely funny moments and I really liked the youngest brother, so I’m hoping he gets a bit more developed. Actually I’m hoping that a majority of the main characters get developed because sometimes it is honestly hard to tell who is who. Ok that’s it!

Here's a spoiler free review from a rookie. If you don't want a bunch of information, I'll just say it's worth a read. If you do, here you go!

I'd say this is a good book to read if you're just starting to pick up reading again or if you're trying to get out of a reading slump. I haven't read as many books as others, but this is a pretty good young adult piece. Let's start off with the good things:

- loving the general theme
- likeable characters
- easy to understand
- many new events (things are constantly happening yet at a medium pace)
- some character backstory?? (only a little)

Here are some of my critiques:
- some of the "reveals" weren't as big as I expected, but I also have to read the sequel to give my final thoughts.
- would've liked a little more development with the romance

Overall, I give it 3.5 stars out of 5; it's definitely worth a read and I really enjoyed it!
