Brenna and Rye might just be a new Kristen Callihan favorite couple for me. I have been waiting for this and it did not disappoint. This was a fun yet emotional story that hooked me from the beginning. I highly recommend this series!

I love Kristen Callihan, and this book was on the line of what I expected, this rockstar romance with a bit of enemies to lovers hooked me from the start, it's a dual POV so you get both sides of Brenna and Rye's story, the bassist and the PR manager. Can I say how much I loved Gabriel, yeap I do. So get this book if you like rockstar romance and enemies to lovers, you will have a fun time!

Second Read, June 2022:

“With you in my life, I’ll never forget how far we both can fly, Ryland Peterson.”

*grabs a mic and pretends there's an audience* Give it up for one of the best authors in the contemporary romance genre, Kristen Callihan!!!

This book (and this series in general) will forever hold a special place in my heart. I will never tire of praising the depth in which these characters are portrayed, the care with which this story is written and how a deep connection with both characters and plot can so easily be reached by the reader because of how well it's written. I don't know if that was as clear as I want it to be but my point is, this story and the world this author has created is amazing and will remain one of my fave series in this genre!

First Read, July 2021:

4.5 Stars

Okay, I just have to start saying, once again, Kristen Callihan promises to give us an amazing love story and once again, she delivers!!

I mean who does this?? Who literally writes a FOURTH book in a series and PROVES she keeps getting better and better on her writing with time??? Kristen, I applaud you.

What can I say, really. I mean this book was just lovely. Now, I know I say this about a lot of books and then possibly, after a "but", I say what I think were flaws and why I didn't really give it a higher rating, but truly, with this author, whenever I say a praise, I really mean it.

After all this waiting, since the first book in this series, we FINALLY got Brenna's and Rye's story. Suffice to say, I'm VERY happy.

**From this point on, this review contains SPOILERS**

The way that Brenna can be a stylish, iconic, take-no-one's-shit ice queen but also a vulnerable girl who cares about her found family and feels lonely sometimes was just so wonderful to read. I loved getting to know her inner turmoil about her life and her feelings and it was just so well done. She's probably my favourite female character in this series, in all honesty. In contrast to her icy exterior, Rye was always playful, warm and outspoken, very much crashing with her every time they saw each other. But that's what made the angst so much better!! And here I have to make a *side note* on how there's a difference between characters that are too much "opposites" and characters that are different but still have a natural chemistry. And in this series especially, we have both cases, Scottie&Sophie being the former and Rye&Brenna being the latter. But I talked about the former couple in my review of Managed so I'm not going to get into that now, but I will say, I'm all for this kind of opposites attract that Rye and Brenna have so naturally going on. They always had this quality about them. You could tell in all of their previous interactions that there was always some unspoken tension between them and even that they wanted each other under all that banter and hate-fighting.

"The attraction between us was always there. You can deny it if you want, but it's true. We've been like two magnets facing south, repelling because we can't do anything else. Then I overheard what you needed and I flipped north. Toward you."

In this book they finally give it a shot, but in a shallow, friends-with-benefits kind of way, as if that's all they could do just to get each other out of their systems. I have to say though, that that kind of trope is not my cup of tea, but for them, it actually worked. And I absolutely loved how their relationship developed. How we knew from the start they had deeper feelings for each other, especially Rye, who was just looking for an excuse to have her any way he could. All of that and how it developed into them eventually realizing how deeply their feelings for each other went (and all the angst) was just wonderful and felt very true to their characters and their relationship. It was just so well done. I will keep praising this author forever because of that!

Something I absolutely love about this whole series is the found family trope. How consistent and heart-warming it is. How the band is literally family to each of them and with each new character introduced it was like they were joining the family, embraced by all of them. This book didn't break that magic at all, and the little moments with the band supporting Rye during this hard time for him was just as amazing as any other similar moment in the previous books. But while the other three books in the series were about the band coming together again and welcoming new members to the family with the new partners the guys fell in love with, this one was about these two old "members" of this team drifting away from the band for one reason or another. And it was heartbreaking just as much as it was so interesting to explore.

Also can we just appreciate the "secret dating" trope and the angst that this story had going on and how it even managed to deliver with that in both a hot/steamy and emotional way?? Amazing.

All of that served for great and realistic conflicts and also wrapped up very nicely, and I just can't get enough of how much I want to praise Kristen for this.

I think she has done yet again another wonderful job at keeping this book series her best one yet. Just *chef's kiss*

P.S.: I will keep reminding everyone that Fall (VIP #3) is THE BEST BOOK IN THIS SERIES but this one is most likely a close second.

P.S. #2: @Kristen Whip's book when?

I really enjoyed this one. It was a little sex heavier then if anticipated but I still enjoyed it none the less, it also didn’t take away from their relationship growing, which i have to admire.
I loved Brenna and Rye. They were so good together, the flowed perfectly with one another, I don’t even know how it took them so long to get where they needed to be because of how amazing they were with each other. The relationship is a fairly transitional enemies to lovers, however they also have always cared about each other since the band is family and Brenna is part of that family. And their sexual tension and chemistry was legit off the charts throughout the whole book. I loved how aware of each other they were and how close they are. Like they basically know everything about the other but have never let the other in enough to truly understand how well they go together.
I also loved the appearances from the other couples. While I’ll admit I honestly can’t remember their books very well, since it’s been years, I still enjoyed it. It makes me wanna reread all the books too, and maybe get a little extra snippet of Brenna and Rye.
I honestly don’t even know what to say about this book except that I really enjoyed it. And I love that I enjoyed it so much - especially since I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump.

“I used to think needing someone was a weakness. But life is better, richer, more real with him in it. And I’m not weaker admitting this; I’m stronger.”
