DNF (July 2020)
I got up to Chapter 9 - where Caitlyn meets Kris Kardashian. I am not a fan of the Kardashians. I never have been. They are famous for doing absolutely nothing at all. Kind of like Paris Hilton, the Gosselin family, and the Duggar family as well. They are also famous for doing nothing as well.

But at least I had one long held question answered. In the early 1980s, when I was a teenager, one of my favourite movies was the Village People musical - Can't Stop the Music. In the YMCA portion, I always wondered why the dorky lawyer would wear a crop top!! He was supposed to be a man and yet he wears a crop top?

Since Bruce was already thinking of himself as Caitlyn, well that give me an answer. Only took me 40 years to find out!!

The first half of the book was good. But I have no desire to read about Kris and her spoiled daughters so I just stopped reading.

PS - 8 Sept 2020 - It has been announced that the Kardashian show on TV is finally ending. Thank goodness for that. The best news I have heard all year!!!!

this book was meh .It was okay

just okay. there definitely weren't that many secrets to share. i'd watched I Am Cait which i liked for Cait's education about the LGBT community via a group of interesting friends. i'd watched a smattering of KUWTK episodes. i'd see some of the TMZ stories and read some other items. it's pretty hard to be high profile and have any privacy. it's also tough to avoid information about the Jenners and Kardshians even if you don't watch. it was missing an emotional element. Cait needed a i delve a bit deeper.

To be clear, I am giving this book 2 stars not because of Caitlyn being transgender. The two stars are because of the book is dull and superficial. The only parts of the book that are interesting are of her as a young boy coping with gender dysmorphia. The book has a curiously flat, detached tone throughout most of it which makes it dull. Caitlyn does admit to suppressing emotion but I doubt it is due solely to gender dysmorphia. I've read other biographies of other transgendered people (Janet Mock, Jennifer Boylan) and none of them have this strange emotionally vacant tone. As a result, I tend to agree with Bruce/Caitlyn's ex-wife Linda Thompson who told her children that Bruce/Caitlyn is in "an emotional wheelchair".

I read biographies to experience the person's life and to feel what they feel. Caitlyn's biography makes me feel that she is has lived her entire life on the surface and therefore is not an interesting read.

Surprisingly enough, I didn't hate this...

While the title is a little deceptive (there are very few secrets in this book if you've been paying attention to pop culture and media), it wasn't a bad book. It was actually very articulate and well written, and while I don't love the Jenner/Kardashian clan, I can appreciate Caitlyn's story and her struggle. No one can know what kind of internal struggle she endured pre-transition, so without passing judgment, I thought this was an interesting glimpse into her life.

She does attempt to dispel some of the rumors and gossip about her, in a very "it's none of your business" attitude, which I can also appreciate.

I enjoy celebrity autobiographies and if you do too, I would recommend Caitlyn Jenner's autobio.

After reading this, I still feel like there were “secrets” held back. The book only recaps what we already knew about her discovery and fierce attempt to hide her self.

Watched Untold: Caitlyn Jenner on Netflix. Learned a lot about the story behind the Olympic decathlon, etc…heard references to both that and this book on the Hulu Kardashian show…

So here I am reading the book, which I thought offered an interesting window into the struggles and back and forth nature of having to hide her true self for so long. I found it easy to keep listening to and there were still interesting details throughout that were new to me.

I didn’t find it repetitive to the stories she’s already shared, but I have not followed her closely…read Vanity Fair or watched I Am Cait. I also didn’t feel like it was a rant or her throwing people under the bus left and right as some reviews suggest. I took it for what it was—her story and her perspective. It came across to me as honest enough and acknowledged some of the stories were how she remembers them, etc. For the rest, don’t you have to take everything with a grain of salt when one person talks about another person? OJ stuff was interesting though TBH. Didn’t hold back on her thoughts there! Lol

Listened to on audiobook

Talks about the life of Bruce to Caitlyn Jenner. Goes in depth on the emotions, and conversations had with different people. How she felt, and how she survived the tough times of her life.

If your a fan of KUWTK this book will give you some inside looks into how everyone felt about the transition is Caitlyn’s eyes.
