It's a clever story that should appeal to any child. It is an attractive book with illustrations are bright and playful and the story has the nice sinister edge of a good fairy tale that should keep them hooked to the end while still being light and fun.
A good measure of the humour will appeal to adults as well so a great story to read to the kids.
I read this book for a Children’s Literature course at the University of Guelph. I was unfamiliar with this author before this course. However, after reading this story, I think this is an author that should reside on many children’s bookshelves. In this story, Goldilocks accidentally finds herself in the wrong story, in which she encounters three dinosaurs instead of 3 bears. The book parodies the classic Goldilocks and the three bears story by pointing out significant flaws in the original tale. One of these flaws includes the obliviousness of Goldilocks. This book is filled with sarcasm, humour and even a couple appearances of everyone’s favourite pigeon. A lovely book indeed, I highly recommend it!
Me - I loved how E giggled on almost every page as she was reading. A fun retelling that I completely recommend. There are some fun details in the books that connect to Willems other books like a little picture of Pigeon in one of the scenes. The drawings are the same minimalist style as Elephant and Piggie. It makes a great read aloud with opportunities to use different voices which is always fun for kids to hear.
Mo Willems, you beautiful bastard. After reading your "Elephant and Piggy" books, I would not hesitate to call you the best children's author of this millennium (to say nothing of the "Pigeon" books). I have nothing left to say about your books, beyond: You did it again!
