Ngl, this book was a great surprise .
Although the writing was not that great, the plot was amazing, as were the characters.
Highly recommend it if you want a good and fast read.

What an absolute gem of a story all about the healing power of love. Two tormented people who find each other and, despite everything against them, fight to keep it.
Bree is a strong character. Despite losing her parents the way she did, she still holds space in her heart for others. She doesn’t allow the loss to consume her and she helps Archer find his voice in a world that (he thinks) wants to rip him to shreds.
Archer. My god. What a lost, tormented, scared soul. Finally finding his solace in the very unexpected Bree, he makes it his mission to love her; like that was the only reason he was put on earth.
I can’t with this book. I wish I could read it for the first time over and over.

Well I am not going to be in the majority with this review. I needed an "ugly cry" book and this one came highly recommended, so I wholeheartedly jumped right in. Unfortunately, I had more frustration than emotion as I continued to read.
First, let me say that I am a freak about grammar errors, timeline errors and just plain not paying attention to what is written. Here is an example:
"Two days later I drove past Archer's house on my way back from lying on the small lake beach and his gate was slightly open. A thrill shot down my spine as I got off my bike."
So did she "drive" or ride her "bike"? Or maybe she "drove" her bike? Don't you have editors and ARC readers who can spot these discrepancies?
Numerous times we achingly, slowly, ever so slowly inched up the roller coaster track, one click at a time, and boy was I looking forward to that feeling you get as you hurl down the other side. Yet when we finally get to the peak there's no free fall...it's a straight line to another slow inching peak.
This story had the makings of a really great story. All the benchmarks were there, but none really ever hit a mark. The story was repetitive, the conversations were repetitive, and I constantly felt like it was narrated by someone standing at a distance looking in, not the first person narrative it was written in. The small town setting was charming. I was very interested in how Archer, a reclusive mute who had very little interaction with people, was going to break out of that persona. But again, we fall short every time we inch towards a piece of the story that could have taken us on a fun, wild, emotional ride and emotionally opened our hearts.
Being around my best friend my whole life, who is deaf, that part of the story - using sign language as a form of communication- was enticing to me. When signing, body language and facial expressions, as well as the amplification of the movements, is where you find the emotion of the conversation. I felt like during these "conversations" we could only see the hands, not body language, no facial expressions, no emotion, no excitement, no sadness.
So I will give this book 2.5 stars since it had potential and I did read it. Not sure I would recommend it though.
