I DEVOURED this book. First off, the brothers/ex boyfriends rival trope is such an underrated trope. We donāt get it very often but when we do, oh my.. I just eat it up.
Maya is our FMC. She attends Heston U, while her brother is on the rival college hockey team (Elmwood). When she attends one of his games for the first time in three years, Easton ā Heston Uās Captain of the hockey team ā gets distracted by her in the stands, causing Heston U to lose the game. After the game, he ends up seeing her at the local bar, where she is dancing on the table. He is instantly infatuated with her & like the caveman he is, he carries her straight out of there over his shoulder. Maya is quick to tell him she doesnāt do hockey players, but dares him to try & pursue her anyway. What she doesnāt expect, is for him to actually make the effort & win her over.
Easton was just downright swoony. We see him go from 100% playboy to a simp for Maya almost instantly. Which I will say, I donāt usually love the insta-love/insta-attraction trope but Veronica wrote this one so so well. & the chemistry between those two⦠I was sweating reading a few of those spicy scenes

I really wanted to love this one. It had good writing, amazing steam and chemistry, and I LOVED all of the characters. The group of hockey players were so fun, I LOVED Easton (you will too if you love a man who is obsessed over the heroine), and I really connected with Maya. Her energy and her friend group were fun.
BUT⦠there was literally NO conflict in this book. He courted her. She resisted, then fell. From there on out it is them tackling obstacles together. Thatās it. Thatās the story.
I have to have conflict. It is almost always a reason I low star a book.
There were also some consistency issues or errors and super unrealistic hockey moments that took me out of the book a few times.
Would I read more from this author? Yeah, Iāll try again.

It was a pretty solid romance. More actual hockey in the story than most hockey romances lol

It was cute and I was very invested for the first half of the book. But they get together kinda early in the book and then nothing really happened. It felt rather long and was a little boring because of that.
Maybe I am done with my hockey book era but I simply could not get into this one as much as I wanted to
This was meh. The spice was good, but there was absolutely no plot after they got together. No conflict, no drama, nothing, just their happy relationship while fucking like rabbits. The first 40% of the book was good with the slow burn and the pining but then it just felt repetitive and long!
