This was sweet and nice, I really liked the romance and Leia, I just wanted more. The meat wasn't there. It was all veggies. It was still nice though.

such an amazing book
i love leia and think she’s one of the best characters in star wars.
seeing her take her first steps into the rebellion was such a magical experience
this was my third claudia gray book and she’s definitely my new favorite author
seeing the references made to padmé and just experiencing live during the empire was very amazing
really well-written and i love the politic element in this book

This was surprisingly great. And I’m not even that big of a Star Wars fan. If you like young adult books with more mature themes and lots of adventures and political intrigue then check out this book!
This was a fun listen. The audiobook is certainly well done, with music and sound effects (shout out to the first appearance of Artoo in Leia's life, doing something a little rebellious), and the reader does great voices. The story itself was fine. Nice background into what Leia's life was like when she was newly 16, although it was a little too neatly wrapped up. There were nice references to both what's going to happen in the movies and in Grey's other novel (which does an excellent job setting up the political scene between the Empire and the First Order).
One weird criticism of the book: The characters went to the same planets that other characters traveled to in Gray's other Leia novel. It's a big galaxy, surely they could have a big more diversity in their out-of-the-way destinations?

4.5 stars. This was excellent, loved getting more of Leia's early life. Claudia Gray is such a master of Star Wars novels.

as a 16 year old i have the credentials to say that claudia wrote leia at that age so perfectly. couldn’t have asked for a better teenage leia book >3
Now that Lucasfilm is making movies that explore characters and events outside of the main series (Rogue One, the Han Solo movie, etc), it seems to me the most obvious candidate for a film is a young Princess Leia. A princess discovers that her father is secretly a freedom fighter. Now, that's a great premise. But, sadly, instead of a movie of these events, we've got a YA novel. The good news is they gave the commission for the novel to a writer of real talent. Claudia Grey's previous Leia novel Bloodline was a standout in the new canon line. Leia, Princess of Alderaan is another winner. Grey really understands Leia and manages to capture a new, younger version of the character very well. Leia seems to be going through a critical reevaluation in light of the new Star Wars / Disney era. We're finally seeing the character get her due. And for a character that's arguably the most interesting from the classic trilogy, that's a welcome thing. I hope Claudia Grey gets another chance to write for the Princess / Senator / General. (And if Lucasfilm still wants to make that movie, in spite of the book, I'd buy a ticket.)
A fun story with lot's of adventure and I liked the addition of new characters, but I think the whole time I kept holding my breath expecting an explanation for how she ended up on the ship at the beginning of the original Star Wars trilogy and was frankly a bit disappointed when it didn't. But otherwise I really did enjoy it!
