Trite, cloying and full of tropes. Competently written but lacks passion and a compelling narrative. If I were Jane Austen,
I wouldn't have time traveled for this.

This book surprised me. I thought it was going to be your typical cliche romance novel with silly time travel confusion and the novelty would wear off quickly. But, as the story developed, I became more interested, and I hoped it was going somewhere different than I initially assumed. I was pleasantly surprised and found the last section of the book to be quite endearing and deeper than I thought it would be.

I’ve had Jane in Love on my TBR #bookcart for ages and I almost donated it thinking it was probably a bit too rom com for me. But then I saw it was on Borrowbox and I decided to listen to it on audio. Well it was actually quite delightful and I enjoyed my listen!
Basic premise is Jane Austen is hoping to find love and more importantly a husband and when she is spurned she rashly runs off to London to meet a matchmaker. Mrs Sinclair is less of a traditional matchmaker and more of a witch and Jane acquires a spell to help her find her true love. When she reads out the spell she is transported to modern day England. Very quickly she finds herself friends with actress Sophia Wentworth and her bother Fred who Jane might very slowly be falling in love with.
On paper this is a classic time travel, person from the past can’t comprehend the modern day world shtick BUT this did not bother me as much as I expected. Jane and her quest for love which buts up against her desire to write was so engaging. Sure there was a lot of clichés but I definitely got hooked in. Would Jane choose love or her writing??
All I know is that I finished this book wanting to re-read all of Austen’s novels. I last read these in my teens and I think reading them as an adult might be quite the experience.

Enjoyed this book so much - was more than I expected and I’m not ashamed to say I wept profusely at the end from heartbreak mingled with satisfaction. Women discovering their true worth.

I don’t typically pick time travel books but this was a fun read. I just liked the perspective of Jane Austen living in the modern world. Her relationship with Sofia and Fred is quite comical. I think all three of them grew from the experience they had together. I honestly didn’t know much about Jane going into the book as I’ve never read a bio on her. So I’m not sure how much is accurate. But I presume the author based it off research with maybe a few liberties. Regardless, it was neat learning about her life and what it was like. How much, yet how little in some instances has changed over the centuries.
