I waited so long for this book and it did not meet my expectations (sad face)
First, let me start by saying I loved the story, the setting, the characters (almost) and the HUGS!
The hugs were phenomenal!
But two things bothered me to no end!
One, the writing. or the portrayal of Tom. I loved Tom! so much but sometimes, I felt like he was weird, or he did something out of character, that was brushed as how he is but seemed bizarre! I don't know how to explain it other than it made me cringe a bit.
Plus, he did something in the end, that made me really disappointed in him
Second, Jaimie! I have so much , let's say, negative feelings towards Jaimie. He was the worst brother you could have! let alone TWIN! He was emotionnaly abusing his sister the whole time, and said one nice thing by the end and I'm supposed to like him for it! or root for him to be with anyone, let alone a great beautiful independant woman like Truly!
So yeah! I loved the romance, but couldn't enjoy it fully.

This is my second time trying to get into this and I just don’t like the characters and the writing feels choppy for me. I really wanted to like this!

I wish I had been reading this in ebook format because I would have liked an easy way to search how many times the love interest was described as having the scent of birthday candles. I counted four, but it may have been five (or more!). I guess some people really like men that smell like... wax?

Okay so, this book took me a few tries to get into. I’m not sure why. The beginning was just kind of slow or me, but once the story starts it’s really good. I absolutely loved that the main female character was not some shy, delicate thing that the male character needed to fix or something. I thought she was a really strong character with depth and flaws. She had some things to work out and we get to see her grow. Overall, absolutely loved it!

With a senseless plot and annoying characters, 99 Percent Mine by Sally Thorne is about two childhood friends who have always had feelings for each other and are finally acting on them.
Summary: Tom Valeska, Darcy Barrett and her older twin brother Jamison "Jamie" Barrett are childhood friends. Darcy has had a crush on Tom since they were eight, but they missed their chance at love. Now, Darcy and Tom are flipping her late grandmother's house, and it turns out that Tom is single again.

Review: What the heck did I just read? No, really. WHAT? This book makes zero sense, and it's just so poorly written. Every single character is awful, and I don't even know what the purpose of this story is. It's going in all directions. Even then, Tom and Darcy have zero chemistry, Jamie is terrible and doesn't even make sense, and every other character might as well not exist.
I would like to start off by complaining about the romance plotline. Darcy starts off wanting to make Tom 2% hers because she wasn't satisfied with 1%. Keep in mind that during this time, Darcy is under the impression that Tom is still engaged to another woman named Megan. Girl, he's taken. He's not yours to take any percentage of. He's not "yours". Possession is cute when you have a thing, but you don't.
Darcy is such an annoying character. The author probably tried to make her sound quirky and all that, but she was too irritating. She can't stop bringing up her nipple piercing (yes, just one) when nobody gives a shit about it. I dreaded it every time she had to remind me of her bloody nipple piercing. I DON'T CARE. Darcy is also crazy because she has wished for Megan to die. It's supposed to be quirky, but it's horrifying.
"I’m so jealous of Megan I’m going to rev the engine of a combine harvester and convert her into a bag of bloody grain."
You can't possibly convince me that this is okay.
Tom is also annoying. There is a serious lack of communication here. He was so adamant about keeping everything a secret. He didn't tell Darcy that he and Megan broke up because he didn't want them to form a relationship until after they were done with the house. Then when they were dating, he didn't want Darcy to tell Jamie about it until they were done with the house. He's allegedly super insecure about himself and is afraid he'll turn out to be like his father who abandoned him three months into his mother's pregnancy. He wants to be perfect because he's afraid Jamie would kick him out of his life otherwise. It's just so dumb. I think it's just the way this insecurity was conveyed. It was so eye-rolling. He's so secretive and disappears whenever things don't go his way.
If Darcy is annoying, then Jamie is even more annoying. He acts like he cares so much about his twin, but he keeps sabotaging her. He bet $100 that Darcy would leave the construction site within 1 week. He told Darcy that she didn't deserve Tom and even called her a "human flotsam". I was half-convinced that he had a crush on Tom and was being possessive, but it seems that that wasn't the case. In fact, the actual reason was way dumber than that: Tom was his only real friend, and he was afraid that Tom was only his friend because he wanted to be with Darcy. What? It made me roll my eyes. He's a jerk, and I feel like he doesn't deserve Tom as a friend. He's just slightly more annoying than the others.
The other characters in this book are also annoying and irrelevant. I don't even remember half of them. There's this girl called Truly Nicholson who's supposed to be Darcy's best friend but was also helping Jamie spy on her at her workplace all along, a plot twist that was stupidly unnecessary because Truly was so irrelevant to the plot. I only remember that she sews and Darcy shares everything with her. For Truly to share all that with her brother, it's messed up.
Let's not even talk about Megan appearing during the third-act breakup. Even though she wasn't here to cause any drama, it felt so stupid.
Moving on from the annoying characters, let's talk about some flaws with the plot:
Darcy has a congenital heart condition, but it is so poorly portrayed in this book. Darcy doesn't take care of her body. No, she doesn't take her heart medication; they're expired. She eats a ton of sugar, drinks a ton of alcohol and doesn't keep her health in check. I'm honestly surprised that she is still alive. She's so afraid of being a burden, yet she's actively making herself one. Dumbass. Oh, I guess it's another rant about her character again!
As portrayed in the few chapters of the book, Darcy worked at a bar as a bartender. What's dumb is that this fact is barely even brought up again. It feels as if it was pointless to portray the bartender thing because it did nothing but tell readers that she had short hair and liked to screw men (not married ones). Both facts are brought up later in the book, so there really wasn't even a need to show her job as a bartender. It wasn't even made clear what had happened to the bartender thing, but I just assumed that she had quit.
This book simply made me cringe in every way possible. There's too much dialogue, and the writing is awful. Nothing made sense, and the writing just felt so disjointed. The chapter break between Chapters 11 and 12 shouldn't even exist because Chapter 12 continues right where Chapter 11 ends. As if it isn't bad enough that there's too much dialogue, there are barely any dialogue tags. Yes, you heard me loud and clear. That's how confusing the writing is. It was all over the place.
Anyway, I'm not even convinced that Darcy and Tom have feelings for each other. That's how lacking their chemistry was. I don't even believe Darcy when she claims that she has liked Tom since she was eight. The angst in their relationship didn't even make sense because it was so poorly explained. Everything in this story was so poorly explained. Everyone was insufferable.
Overall, this book didn't even need to exist. The plot doesn't make any sense, and the characters are very annoying. I highly recommend that you pass up on this book unless you have a lot of patience for stupidity. This story is so bland.

Masterclass in pining.
Everybody is pining in this book. The prose is good. The communication/emotional intelligence is bad.

I had extremely high hopes but they did not hold up. Sally Thorne wrote a cliched, overdone, and predictable romance. I believed that the book was going to be great when I read an excerpt and then I started the book and it was instantly downhill.
