I was so excited to read this book after tearing through The Hating Game but I left feeling so disappointed. Honestly, the only characters I really liked where Patty and Tom. And you can probably strike Tom from that short list because I found him annoying after a while too! While he was supposed to come off as a pleaser trying to fit in with Darcy and her brother, he just came off as being a door mat. I know this was addressed in the book and, to be honest, that was the only saving grace for me. I also wasn’t a fan of how Darcy’s character was developed either. She is the type of character I usually root for! But I feel her anger, moodiness and chip on her shoulder were way over the top.

[3.something, rounded up] For big portions of this book I was kind of confused about how each of the main characters was interpreting the other main character’s actions, and some of the conflicts (both romantic and otherwise) were resolved a little too easily. On the other hand, this book had two of the things I want most in a romance novel: it took non-romantic relationships seriously (including platonic/non-sexual touch; there was a discussion of skin hunger that referenced academic literature!) and the main characters did not fall in love like two weeks after meeting each other.

Darcy Barrett has traveled the world since she was 18 years old, vowing to never stay in one place too long. Running away has always been her coping mechanism. When her beloved grandmother dies, she leaves Darcy, and her twin brother, Jamie, her cottage that is to be renovated and sold. They hire childhood friend, Tom to handle the renovation and Darcy decides to stay put in order to see the renovation through… and it’s only partly due to her major crush on Tom. Now, forced to work together on the renovation, Darcy and Tom have to fight their feelings.

review: This was one of my most anticipated books of the year (you may remember it from this post). After reading The Hating Game I was excited to get my hand on Sally Thorne’s newest book. While I didn’t like it as much as her debut book, it was still a cute read. I didn’t particularly like Darcy, but I loved Tom and his development throughout the book! This is definitely a good friends to lovers trope romance book. rating: 3 out of 5 ⭐️

After loving The Hating Game, I was 100% on board with loving this one. Unfortunately, this book and I just never clicked.

With romances, I have to like the main characters. If I don't, it makes it hard to care if they get together or not. The thing is, in my opinion, Darcy still needed to grow up some before getting Tom. Tom is an adult, yet his two best friends still read like young 20 year olds... or high schoolers. Their fights felt petty and while I don't mind siblings not liking each other, the fact that they still are friends and depend on each other felt so awkward. Seriously, Tom felt like he was stuck in between the two of them-- a toy for them to play with.

Darcy does have some good moments though and I appreciate her taking the time to try being better. Tom is an absolute gem and I swear most of the book I just felt bad for him having to deal with Darcy getting in his way.

The thing is, I did for the most part enjoy reading this book and the ending worked for me. Also that The Hating Game epilogue was GOLD.

3.5 stars!!!! It was a bit difficult for me to get into so I switched over to the audiobook and it was better. The two MC were super flirty and fun to read about. I thought the twin situation was an interesting twist as well.

Sally Thorne has done it again. I am 110% in love with 99% mine. You can't help but adore her quirky characters and how they fight the push and pull of their emotions. Poor Tom Valeska was unofficially adopted into the Bennett family when he was an 8 year old living across the street from their house. Since that time, he has been torn between twins Darcy and Jamie. Although they are twins, Jamie is big and strong and Darcy has a heart condition. Tom has been in love with Darcy forever. She is in love with Tom but he is engaged so she travels the world and never stays put for long to avoid seeing his happiness.
When their grandmother dies, Tom is brought in to renovate the house and prepare it to sell. Darcy is constantly underfoot and they finally are able to give in to their feelings. It takes a while for the 3 of them to sort out all their issues (and some tears are shed - including by me) before the Happily Ever After finally arrives.
If you are like me, you might close the book after the story ends and skip all the acknowledgements and afterwards. This book is like a Marvel movie - you must continue past all the credits to get to 2 little gems - an epilogue to not only this book but also one for The Hating Game. Well worth the wait!

Oh my gosh, this book sucks! Do not read it! The writing is so terrible I kept thinking I was having a stroke or falling asleep while reading because it made no sense. Thorne jumps around topics and doesn’t have a lot of speaker tags for the dialogue, so it is confusing who is talking and what is going on. There seems to be little description of the setting, what the characters are doing, and what's going on – so confusing!

Besides the terrible writing, this book is so problematic. First off, the title should be an indication – the characters have this whole thing about the other person being “theirs” and not someone else’s. And the whole bad-girl good guy thing that is going on is not selling it for me. For a large portion of the book, they seem to not be together because Tom thinks he is not good enough for Darcy and there is some weird thing going on with her twin brother Jaimie who also sucks.

Also could Darcy please just get a bra that fits so her strap is not always slipping off her shoulder? Please and thank you.
