2.5 Stars
I would have given it a solid 3 stars, maybe even 3.5, if not for that ending. I felt that it was a very weak ending to what had seemed to be a very promising start. I won't go too much into detail because, really, there is little I can say that wouldn't be spoilers.
The level of disappointment was so immense, I think, because that beginning put my expectations on a whole new level. We are given a glimpse of how far corrupted love could be, a horrible decision made that could have ruined the once "perfect" bonds in that family, only to then be easily forgiven despite how life-altering these events were. How potentially horrific life could be because of a decision made with love.
But no, forgiveness comes a whole lot easier than I would have ever wanted. I was not against it happening at all, I just felt that the last 80 or so pages were so ridiculously rushed that it... was.. well, ridiculous.
That said, I found myself enjoying Jenna (mostly, at least). The struggles she faced seemed realistic. I think that the characters other than Jenna were so damn bland by the end...
Ethan...no.
Dane (who I HAD SUCH HIGH EXPECTATIONS FOR)....also, no.
Neighbor....no.
Parents....no.
EVERYONE BY THE END OF THIS BOOK: No.
One-time read, unfortunately.
I really wanted to like this book.
I REALLY wanted to like this book.
Sadly, that ending absolutely sucked for me.

In a future world where bioengineering has wiped out species of plants and strains of bacteria have become resistant to all medicines, Jenna Fox was in a terrible car accident. After being in a coma for over a year, Jenna wakes up... and she has no memory of herself. She doesn't remember the accident. She doesn't know why she's walking funny. She doesn't know why her grandmother appears to hate her. She doesn't know where her friends are or why her family has recently moved across the country. As Jenna tries to piece her life back together, she will discover just how far her parents would go to save her life.
This novel has beautiful writing and a gripping plot. Highly recommended. Hand this one to fans of House of the Scorpion.

Pop Sugar’s 2017 Reading Challenge - A book with an unreliable narrator
Unique idea and good execution made this book a great experience for me. Though being an avid fan of action and adventure I was a little disappointed at times when I kept on waiting for some huge action or some huge revelation to happen which did not happen because the huge secret of Jenna's life is not a secret at all because a few pages in to the book you will guess it correctly but I was surprised about the actual facts relating to the 'Accident' that Jenna was into.
But other than that I enjoyed the story lot because the plot made me think a lot about the choices that Jenna made and what would I have done if I have been in a similar situation.

3/5 stars
Overall a decent read with a unique storyline. However, I felt like there wasn't a lot going on besides Jenna getting her memory back. Perhaps this was just a set up for the next book? I wonder, did Pearson plan on making this into a series from the start, or was decided after this book did well? In addition, I was left with a lot of unanswered questions. The book jumps over 200 years into the future at the end, so I feel like I probably won't be getting any answers. I guess I'll just have to read the second book and see.

They took "The Giver" out of my 8th grade curriculum and replaced it with this. Hell on Earth.
Crazy. Deep. Moving. I love the questions it produced in my mind, and how it made me question my own thoughts about medical care. I love that it didn't seem to take a stance on either side of the issue, but instead, presented valid and compelling arguments for, and against, both.
This book was interesting to read, though predictable at points. I enjoyed the fact that it was a science-fiction story but read more like a drama. Overall, I felt that the themes of the book regarding humanity were good, but the book was just okay. I didn't fall in love with the characters.
5+ stars; one of the 10 most memorable books (out of several hundred) I've read in the last 4 years or so (2015-2019).
